Inter close to completing Álvaro deal

Radio Bandeirantes this morning reports that Inter are close to making their sixth signing, with 30 year old defender Álvaro being next in line for a move to the Beira-Rio. The radio station reports that an announcement confirming his signing could be imminent.

The centre back currently plays for Spanish club Levante who were relegated last season and Álvaro wants to return to his homeland so he can force his way back into the Seleção.

Álvaro is thought to be keen on a move to Inter and would join Bolívar, Rosinei, Gustavo Nery, Daniel Carvalho and Andrés D’Alessandro who have all been recent additions to the squad as Inter look to rebuild their squad.

Tite waits before making changes for Fluminense

In the aftermath of last nights disappoint defeat to Santos, Tite spoke to the media as he reorganises his side for the Saturdays visit to Rio de Janeiro where Inter take another side struggling in the Brasileirão, Fluminense.

Tite was asked whether he thought the team featuring Taison, Guto, Walter and Talles Cunha coming off the bench, against Santos were too young. “We had more of the game, more chances, we kept the ball in their half and dominated possession. This is good form but the side is maturing”, declared the coach. “I understand the implications of two consecutive defeats; I understand why we lost to Ipatinga. Today Santos played a patient game against us, particularly in the first half. In the second have we started well, creating two chances but the one chance they had won them the game”, he added.

Tite was also asked about spoke about the loss of Nilmar and Alex, “Everything is process of evolution and maturity, when we have to change the structure of the team it affects our momentum”. In preparation for Fluminense, Tite has the prospect of new signings Bolivar and Rosinei available. “We now have to go through the legal aspect of clearing the players’ registration for the new players. Independent of this I will see who is available. I will see what the medical department say about Nilmar and I do not know about Sorondo”, he confirmed.

16ª Rodada update

Inter’s disappointing defeat can see them fall as far as tenth in the Campeonato Brasileiro if Sport beat Ipatinga tonight. Inter now have 22 points from 16 games but are six points from the top four places in the league. Inter’s next match is against 19th placed Fluminense at the Maracanã. Another defeat would place serious doubts over Inter’s ability to realistically challenge for the Brasileirão.

Santos meanwhile temporarily move out of the relegation zone as Vasco play tonight against Atlético-MG. A point at the San Januario will be enough for Vasco to climb back above Santos.

In last nights matches, Flamengo again slipped up and have won just once in their last six games. They were beaten in São Paulo by Palmeiras who now move up to fifth, level on points with Flamengo who drop to forth. Cruzeiro top the table for now with a 4-2 win over Náutico, the Raposa (fox) now lead by a point over both Vitória and Grêmio. Vitória moved up into second following their 2-1 win over Atlético-PR, Vitória’s winning goal coming in the 88th minute through Ramon. Grêmio meanwhile, can go back top of the table if they avoid defeat to Coritiba (7th) who remain unbeaten at their Estádio Couto Pereira home. São Paulo hover just outside the top four but drop down to sixth after their 1-0 draw at Figueirense. Figueirense took an early lead through Tadeu, but Hugo levelled for the away side on 79 minutes.

In the evenings other two games, Portuguesa temporarily pushed themselves up to the dizzy heights of 12th spot in the Campeonato as they inflicted more misery on Fluminense. Flu scored early on to go in front but Portuguesa levelled shortly afterwards. Tarta was then sent off for the Tricolor Carioca shortly before half time. Two second half goals ensured the points for Portuguesa whilst Flu finished the game with nine men, with striker Washington being sent off with half an hour remaining. In the final game of the round, Botafogo won 2-0 against Goiás at the Engenhão. Two first half goals for the experienced Tulio against his former club, and the sending off of Goiás defender Erndando late on, moves Botafogo up to eighth place. Fogo have not conceded a goal in three games. Goiás meanwhile drop into the bottom four, as the Esmeraldino struggle to find any consistency.

Inter finally fall at Beira-Rio as Colorado slip to second consecutive defeat

Despite Andrés D’Alessandro finally arriving in Porto Alegre and watching his new team, Inter slumped to their second consecutive defeat in the space of four days as they were defeated by Santos. The defeat see’s Inter lose their undefeated home record in the Brasileirão as Santos claim their first away win.

Inter started the match with a youthful looking line-up with Taison, Guto and Walter all starting. Popular ex-defender Fabiano Eller lined up for Santos. Inter began the match looking positively, trying to force an early goal with Ângelo and Taison both going close from Inter’s early chances. But in what was a largely uneventful first half with neither side seriously threatening to break the deadlock, the score remained goalless at the interval.

Inter started the second half again looking to make an early impression. Andrezinho fed the ball through to Taison whose left footed shot from outside the box was pushed over by the Santos ‘keeper, Douglas. Again Inter pushed forward as Santos failed to create. It was Andrezinho again who played the ball through, this time for powerful young striker Guto who drilled his shot wide of the goal. Santos then created their first opportunity of the game, breaking forward the ball was laid out to a Santos striker who burst into the box hitting the ball into the side netting. Santos were then to have another opportunity and it was one which they did not have to work hard to create. Clemer’s goal kick was headed back into Inter’s half by a Santos midfielder with the ball looking to arrive at the feet of centre back Danny Morais. Despite having time and space, Danny inexplicably let the ball to bounce with Santos striker Leite closing him down. Danny Morais lost possession as Leite (66) burst through on goal to give Santos an underserved lead, slotting the ball past Clemer. Inter responded as Walter managed to put a low cross into the Santos box but the ball was well claimed by Douglas in goal, with Guto running in. As Inter attacked, Santos also found themselves getting chances on the break. With neither Inter nor Santos creating any real opportunity, the match ended to a chorus of boos from the Beira-Rio crowd, as Inter lost their second game in a row to a relegation threatened team.

Daniel Carvalho puts pen to paper

Daniel Carvalho has today put pen to paper as his move to Inter was confirmed this afternoon in Porto Alegre. He will be presented to the press within the next hour as the club confirm the first of two major additions to the squad.

“I'm not lacking persistence. I waited for Inter to do their great work to complete the deal. I want to reward the the club that has received me very well”, declaired the midfielder.

Inter's other signing of D'Alessandro was due to be completed today with the player undergoing a medical before officially completing his four year contract, but his flight from Buenos Aires to Porto Alegre has been delayed.

Daniel Carvalho arrives in POA

Daniel Carvalho arrived in Porto Alegres Salgado Filho airport in the early hours of this morning where he was greeted by around a hundred Inter fans.

The return of the idol was given a loud reception as he arrived back in his home city as fans cheered his name whilst one supporter gave him an Inter flag.

Carvalho will now begin training and will be available for Tite in around two weeks.

Colorado Kids looking to catch the Fish

Tite is tonighted expected to give his young strikers Walter and Guto the opportunity to get the goals to beat Santos, who are famously known in Brazil as ‘Peixe’ (Fish).

Walter who’s just turned 19 and Guto, 20 are two of the clubs hottest prospects to emerge from the Categorias de Base (see opposite). Having fired Inter’s Juniors to the Juniors Campeonato Gaucho title, the pair will now both start together for the first team in the absence of Alex and Nilmar.

Walter has made one start with three substitute appearances whilst Guto has also started once, making two appearances off the bench, scoring one goal.

Tite has played the pair together in tactical preparation ahead of this evening’s game and the two strikers have already played together in the junior team.

“It’s usually to be involved and we’re always hoping for an opportunity in the professional side. We will do everything we can”, commented Walter.

Inter v Santos

As Inter’s away form becoming something of a crisis following the weekends defeat to bottom club Ipatinga, Inter will be looking to maintain their impressive unbeaten record at the Beira-Rio tonight for the visit of Santos.

With Andrés D’Alessandro and Daniel Carvalho possibly being unveiled before the game Inter must rely on two of it’s potential stars this evening, with both Guto and Walter expected to start.

Tite will welcome back the return of Índio to central defence as he returns from a suspension and whilst Ricardo Lopes has recovered from his injury, Tite is expected to continue with Ângelo at right back. Tite is also expected to hand a start to midfielder, Andrezinho who has impressed when coming off the bench in recent games. Magrão is expected to miss out whilst Clemer will continue in goal in the absence of Renan.

Santos meanwhile (like Inter) are without an away victory this season in the Brasileirão and have had a poor start which has seen them win only three games as they lie 19th in the table. However with only having lost two of their last six games, with a 5-2 win over Vasco being their most recent, there are signs that Santos are now ready to push up the table. Santos coach Cuca, will be without goalkeeper Fábio Costa for tonight’s game with Douglas set to replace him whilst the Santos defence will have a familiar face amongst them. Fabio Eller returns to Beira-Rio after signing for Santos last month. Inter will have to be aware of their dreaded penalty jinx tonight, Santos were awarded three penalties in Sunday’s win over Vasco with left sided defender, Kléber scoring them all!

Probable team: Clemer, Ângelo, Índio, Danny Morais, Marcão, Edinho, Guiñazu, Andrezinho, Taison, Guto, Walter

Inter confirm D’Alessandro deal

The club’s official site (internacional.com.br) has confirmed that Andrés D’Alessandro will be arriving in Porto Alegre today at 16:30. He will undertake a medical and complete the signing of his four year contract.

There is still no confirmation when he will be officially presented to the media and supporters, along with Daniel Carvalho, who is already in Porto Alegre. It is thought however, that they could be both presented before tonight’s game with Santos in what will be a busy day for the club.

16ª Rodada preview

As the 16th round approaches, the intensity of the Campeonato Brasiliero shows no sign of slowing up with another full programme of midweek games. Four points now separate Inter from the top four places in the Brasileirão, Inter will be looking to close the gap with a victory over 18th placed Santos, who will undoubtedly be boosted by their 5-2 win over Vasco in round 15. If Inter are to move up the table, seventh placed Curitiba must drop points at home to league leaders Grêmio who play each other in Paraná on Thursday.

In São Paulo, Flamengo will be searching for their first win in five games when they visit Palmeiras, who could move into the top four with a win. Cruzeiro entertain mid table Náutico whilst Vitória (4th) and São Paulo (5th) play Atlético-PR and Figueirense respectively.

Botafogo could secure themselves amongst the Copa Sudamericana places if they can beat Goiás (15th) in Rio on the back of their goalless draw with Fla on Sunday, and Portuguesa will be looking to pull away from the relegation zone if they can beat Fluminense, who are only separated from the Brasileirão’s bottom club Ipatinga, by goal difference.

Thursday night’s remaining ties see’s Vasco searching for their first win in six, take on Atlético-MG who currently occupy thirteenth spot. Sport will be looking to break into the top eight meanwhile if the beat Ipatinga and Inter lose, who incidently were beaten on Saturday by Ipatinga.

16ª Rodada fixtures: (Wed) Vitória v Atlético-PR, Cruzeiro v Náutico, Portuguesa v Fluminense, Botafogo v Goiás, Palmeiras v Flamengo, Internacional v Santos, Figueirense v São Paulo (Thurs) Vasco v Atlético-MG, Coritiba v Grêmio, Sport v Ipatinga

Bolívar and Rosinei available from Sunday

Recent signings Bolívar and Rosinei will become available to Tite from 1st August, when their registration officially clears.

They are both likely to be involved on Sunday where Inter play Fluminense at the Maracanã. Inter will be hoping the arrival of Bolívar and Rosinei will help the club end it’s unwanted run of games away from home.

Meanwhile, Gustavo Nery is still short of fitness and continues to train and new goalkeeper Ricardo should be named on the bench for tomorrow night against Santos.

D’Alessandro clearance finally set to arrive

Website finalsports.com.br is reporting that Inter will today receive the sought after email from Zaragoza, which will confirm the clearance of D’Alessandro.

The documentation will be in the hands of Gustave Mascardi who represents the player. Mascardi is in Argentina and could along with the player fly to Porto Alegre tonight. It is then hoped that D’Alessandro will be officially announced by the club on Wednesday, along with Daniel Carvalho who arrives in Brazil today from Moscow. Despite the reports, the club is still yet to officially confrim the deal.

Piffero gives Nilmar assurances

Inter President Vitório Piffero spoke last night to Radio Gaucha regarding rumours suggesting Nilmar is to leave the club.

Reports have suggested that Inter must negotiate Nilmar with Real Zaragoza as part of the deal which is takes D’Alessandro to the Beira-Rio. The Spanish club are set to of made an € 12 million (approximately R$ 30 million) offer for the inform striker but keen to keep the player.

“We do not want to sell Nilmar. This offer is excellent but it is not enough. The same as with Guiñazu. But if we receive an offer we cannot refuse, then we will discuss business”, explained Piffero.

Inter who own 80% of Nilmar are now thought to looking to acquire the remaining 20% of the players rights which is currently owned by Nilmar himself. The cost of buying the remaining 20% which would mean Inter fully own Nilmar, is said to be around €2.4 million.

Alex and Nilmar injury update

With both Alex and Nilmar picking up knocks on the weekend, Tite now has a clearer idea of the extent of injuries the pair suffered as he prepares the squad for tomorrow’s game with Santos.

Alex’s thigh injury appears to be slightly worse than originally thought and he is now expected to be out for around 3 weeks rather than the ten days which was expected.

Nilmar meanwhile, should be fit to play against Santos following further examination on his suspected knee injury, although he may be rested as a precaution.

Nilmar doubtful for Santos as Zaragoza rumours persist

Nilmar is said to be doubtful ahead of Wednesday night’s game with Santos as speculation over his future at Inter grows. Nilmar is the second fresh injury concern to Tite following the defeat to Ipatinga with Alex already ruled out.

Nilmar who has returned to form in recent weeks felt pain in his right knee early on into Saturday’s game but continued playing as not to draw more attention to himself following reports that Real Zaragoza have made an offer for him.

“Within two minutes I fell on the pitch but was determined to want to win the game so I continued. The doctors have now looked at it and we’re waiting to see the extend of it. I am thinking here about Inter. Everybody knows that if there is an offer for me, then it has to be what’s best for me”, declared Nilmar.

It is thought that Zaragoza have made an offer worth € 12 million for the player with Spanish newspaper AS going as far to say that Inter have agreed to sell Nilmar in December providing Zaragoza allow them to sign D’Alessandro.

Breaking News: Inter confirm Daniel Carvalho

Inter have confirmed the signing of Daniel Carvalho this morning in Porto Alegre. The clubs official site internacional.com.br, confirms that Carvalho joins Inter on a six month loan deal from CSKA and as reported earlier today, he will be presented to the media on Wednesday.

Carvalho left Internacional to join CSKA in 2004 after becoming a hugely popular figure with his performances and passion for Inter and his return will be a huge boost to everyone associated with Inter.

It is known that he has taken a reduction in his salary to return to the Beira-Rio as he joins the club in it's quest to qualify for the Copa Libertadores. The club will be 100 years old next year and wants to ensure that it is competing in the Copa Libertadores in it's centenary, and has completed the first of two significant signings to help achieve it's goal.

The club's other major transfer target D'Alessandro is expected to join the club later this week with some reports claiming he'll be officially announced as an Inter player tomorrow.

Inter to decide Wellington's future

Zero Hora also report today that Inter this week must decide whether to accept offers they have received for striker Wellington.

The player is currently on loan to Náutico where has scored four goals in ten games for the mid table side and his form has attracted interest from Europe. Italian club Reggina and Monaco of France have both lodged offers for the player.
Any deal to negotiate the sale of Wellington is likely to be complex. Inter own 40% of the player whilst entrepreneur Jorge Machado owns another 40%, with the remaining 20% owned by Náutico.

It is understood that the European clubs are offering close to € 6 million (around R$ 14 million) for the player. Reggina’s proposal is for 80% of the player’s registration whilst Monaco wish to buy 70%.

Wellington arrived at Inter during Abel Braga’s time at the club but failed to break into the side following competition from Nilmar. Inter must now decide what action they are going to take with player.

D'Alessandro to be presented on Tuesday / D'Alessandro será apresentado na terça-feira

Porto Alegre's Zero Hora claims today that Inter will be officially announcing the signings of both D'Alessandro and Daniel Carvalho.

It's reported that D'Alessandro will be presented to fans on Tuesday whilst Daniel Carvalho will be officially announced on Wednesday. The news will be well recieved by Inter fans following the clubs shock defeat against Ipatinga on the weekend.

D'Alessandro transfer to Inter was initially held up due to Zaragoza failing to provide the club with a fax confirming that they had accepted Inter's proposal but this issue is now expected to resolved this morning. D'Alessandro is expected to leave Argentina and arrive in Porto Alegre later today. Reports on Friday suggested that Zaragoza were stalling on the deal as they declared interest in both Nilmar and Alex, but it's thought the Spanish club are prepared to confirm Inter's original offer the Argentina playmaker.

Meanwhile, the return of former star Daniel Carvalho will be completed on Wednesday, with the player arriving on loan from Russian club, CSKA until the end of the year.

Inter suffer Alex blow

With Inter having another two games this week, the club have been dealt a blow with news that they will be without Alex for over a week.

Alex lasted just 42 minutes before suffering an injury and being substituted for Andrezinho in Saturdays’ defeat against Ipatinga. The clubs medical staff will today have a clearer idea of how long Alex will be unavailable for as they examine what is thought to be a thigh injury. Initial reports seem to indicate that the influential midfielder will be out for around 10 days.

Alex is now ruled out for Wednesday’s game with Santos and Inter’s visit to Rio, where they play Fluminense on Saturday. He is also likely to be a doubt for Inter’s important clash away to Cruzeiro a few days later on 7th August.

15° Rodada round up

Inter’s disappointing defeat on Saturday see’s the Colorado slip down one place to ninth in the table with Coritiba moving up into eighth spot. Inter play again this Wednesday with Santos visiting the Beira Rio, as the gruelling schedule of the Campeonato Brasileiro continues. Inter will be looking to bounce back from their surprise loss to Ipatinga as the Colorado continue to challenge for the top four.

Elsewhere, Grêmio remain top following last night’s 1-1draw with Palmeiras in Porto Alegre. With second placed Flamengo also drawing, finishing goal less with Botafogo, Gremio maintain their one point lead at the top of the table. Flamengo meanwhile, are now without a win in four matches as doubts over their ability to continue their title challenge grow. Moving into the top four are Cruzeiro following their 3-1 win over Fluminense on Saturday. The win puts Cruzeiro in third place, two points behind Grêmio and raises questions over the future of Fluminense coach Renato Gaúcho. In one of the surprise results of the round, Vitória slipped up away to struggling Atlético-MG, the 2-1 win see’s Atlético jump up four spaces into 13th and will undoubtedly relieve some pressure off their under fire coach, Gallo.

In São Paulo state, São Paulo returned to winnings ways and moved up to fifth with a 3-1 win over Portuguesa at the Morumbi. With the first half goal less, Portuguesa took a surprise lead but the Tricolor Paulista replied with three goals to seal the win. The defeat sends Portuguesa into the bottom four but they remain on level points with 16th placed Vasco. Vasco are another Rio club currently short of form and slumped to a surprisingly 5-2 defeat to relegation threatened Santos. The victory is just Santos’ third of the season with Pereira scoring a hat trick of penalties whilst Vasco’s Tiago saw red late shortly before half time.

In the remaining games in round 15, Atlético-PR maintained their impressive home record with a 0-0 draw with Figueirense who will be glad of the clean sheet following their horrific midweek 7-1 defeat. Coritiba meanwhile moved up into seventh spot with a 2-1 victory on Saturday over mid table Náutico and Sport moved up three places into ninth as they recorded a 2-1 win over lowly Goiás.

Tite speaks to media following shock defeat

Despite in the middle of rebuilding the Inter squad and an impressive home record, Tite is drawing criticism for some sections of supporters who hold the coach responsible for the clubs disappointing away record. Some supporters that Tite’s unadventurous style away from home is causing Inter to drop points as the club aim to break into the top four.

Tite spoke to the media following Ipatinga’s surprise victory. “It was a tight game, the effectiveness of our opponents won the game for them. We had chances to take the lead but we couldn’t do it, we lacked a little intensity”, declared Tite. “We had five real chances, the opposition hit the bar in the first half but in the secod half we marked deeper to play the counterattack, this did create chances but we weren’t effective. I’m glad we created but we need more accuracy”, he added.

“I want to make clear that this is not an excuse, but the team felt the strain from the two long trips which we have had in the last 13 days”, he explained when asked of the squads physical condition. He was then asked about the impact the loss of Alex made on the side as he left the field injured after just 42 minutes, “I do not discuss individuals. People know the value of Alex, but in a championship like this, the squad will change needs to be able to change if we are to have a successful campaign.”

Tite was then asked how he justifies a defeat to the team bottom of the table. “The tradition of Inter is bigger than that of Ipatinga. This is not taken for granted on the field though. Ipatinga were effective and obtained the result”

15° Rodada latest

Ipatinga’s surprise victory over Inter last night see’s the club move up off the bottom to 19th in the Brasileirão, leaving Santos who play Vasco later today, bottom of the table. Inter’s defeat leaves the Colorado eighth in the table, without a win in eight attempts away from home. Their situation was worsened by Coritiba who now rise above Inter into seventh place following their 2-1 victory over Náutico in Salvador. Keirrison’s 87th minute strike proved to be the winning goal for Coritiba.

The evening’s other game saw Fluminense’s crisis worsen as they were beaten 3-1 by Cruzeiro in the Maracanã. Washington had given Flu the lead with an early penalty but Cruzeiro fought back and move up into third place in the Campeonato. The result leaves Flu deep in relegation, three points adrift of Portuguesa. Flu have only won three games so far, as their depression following their Copa Libertadores final defeat appears worse than initially thought.

Curse continues at Estádio Ipatingão

Inter’s winless away record continued last night in Minas Gerais as they suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to bottom of the table Ipatinga. The defeat ends Inters unbeaten run of seven games as the club continue to seek their first away victory in the Brasileirão.

Inter began the game with Taison being declared fit to start and a defence consisting of Angelo and Ozorco who replaced Ricardo Lopes at right back and the suspended Índio at centre back.

With Inter expected to win the game, Alex had the first opportunity of the half with his trademark long range free kick rocketing wide past of the post. Inter again threatened, with Nilmar passing the ball across the goal mouth for Alex to shoot whilst off balance into the grateful ‘keeper. The Ipatinga goalkeeper, Fred was again called into action after Taison’s through ball was met by Nilmar. Fred rushed off his line to give Nilmar little side of goal, blocking the inform striker’s shot which was then cleared by a defender. Ipatinga then created their best chance and were only prevented by the cross bar. An Ipatinga player rose above the Inter defence to meet an incoming corner, only to be prevented by the woodwork as Clemer remained rooted to ground. In the 18th minute Inter responded, this time Argentine Guiñazu run at the Ipatinga defence to see his shot from the edge of the box blocked for a corner. Minutes later Nilmar would have another opportunity only to shoot wide, after using his pace to make space for himself to shoot from outside the box.

The second half began with Ipatinga creating a rare opportunity, as a corner resulted in an Ipatinga player heading straight into the arms of Clemer. Inter again responded looking for the opening goal with Ângelo crossing for Nilmar only for Fred to save at close range. Halfway through the second period, the game remain goalless and again Nilmar came close, receiving a low cross from Guiñazu, Nilmar shot for an Ipatinga to clear the ball off the line. Despite the pressure it was Ipatinga would take the lead. After good build up play, Ipatinga saw an effort rocket of the post and fall to Beto (77) to smash the ball in past Clemer to give the home side a shock lead. Guto then had a great chance to level things up unmarked he shot wide from six yards out after receiving the ball from Ângelo. The shock defeat see’s Inter continue to search for their elusive first away win in the Brasileirão.

Zaragoza's bid for Nilmar could jepordise D’Alessandro deal

With almost a week passing since D’Alessandro’s transfer to Inter was agreed, the club are still yet to officially confirming the signing, with no sign of the player himself in Porto Alegre.

Inter supporters excited at the prospect of seeing the Argentine unveiled at the club are keen for the club to officially confirm the deal. Inter have explained that they cannot make any confirmation as they await a fax from Real Zaragoza in Spain. The fax would confirm that Zaragoza have accepted Inter’s proposal for the play whom they own 50% of.

With no sign of any fax confirming the agreement, it is thought that the Inter management are becoming increasingly concerned. Recent reports have only inflamed the situation as rumours in Porto Alegre suggest that Real Zaragoza now want to include Inter’s Alex into negotiations. Whilst this has not been confirmed, Brazilian media group Globo reported of another story last night.

Globo are reporting that Zaragoza have made a substantial offer for Nilmar. The offer is reportedly worth €12 million (R$29.6 mill) Inter are said to have no interest in negotiating the sale of their star striker and Nilmar himself, is not interested in leaving the club following an unsuccessful time in France with Lyon. The increasing worry for Internacional is that if they refuse to accept the offer then it is likely to create a further delay which could jeopardise the transfer of D’Alessandro to Inter.

Ipatinga v Inter

Inter’s winless away record will be expected to come to an end today in Round 15 (18:20 local time), as the Colorado visit struggling Ipatinga, bottom of the Brasileirão. Inter’s task may not be as easy as it suggests on paper, Ipatinga have only lost three of their seven home games and will take heart from their 2-2 draw with Cruzeiro earlier this month. Inter will need the same level of performance shown on Wednesday when they beat São Paulo in an impressive 2-0 win.

As always, suspensions and injury are a cause of concern for Tite with influential defender Indio suspended. With Inter’s other first choice centre back Gonzalo Sorondo injured, Inter’s defence could be a weak spot. Danny Morais will continue to replace Sorondo whilst Tite must decide whether to play out of form Colombian, Orozco or the inexperienced Titi alongside him.

Left back Marcão and midfielder Magrão are available again after missing the São Paulo game through suspension. Both are expected to return straight into the team but despite this boast, Tite has injury concerns over Ricardo Lopes and Taison. Ricardo Lopes was brought off against São Paulo in the first half with a muscular injury and is expected to miss out today with Ângelo coming in at right back. Taison is thought to be less of a doubt and it is possible he could play despite picking up a knock on his ankle earlier this week in training. If Tite decides not to risk the lively midfielder, Andrezinho, who impressed during his substitute appearance midweek will make his fourth Brasileirão start of the season. Alongside him in midfield, popular Argentine, Guiñazu continues despite speculation suggesting this could be his last appearance for the club.

Probable team: Clemer, Ângelo, Orozco, Danny Morais, Marcão, Edinho, Magrão, Guiñazu, Taison or Andrezinho, Alex, Nilmar

15° Rodada preview

The pressure will be on Inter to win their first away game of the Brasileirão on Saturday evening as they visit Ipatinga who sit bottom of the table with only two wins. Whilst Ipatinga were defeated in Coritiba midweek, Inter played magnificently beating a strong São Paulo side 2-0. Despite this, Inter will again have to reshuffle their starting line up as suspensions and injuries continue to cause a headache for Tite. A win for Inter on Saturday could see the temporarily overtaking Palmeiras in fourth place.

Also playing on Saturday, are fifth placed Cruzeiro. They visit a Fluminense side who are three points adrift in the relegation zone whilst mid table Náutico host eighth placed Coritiba in Recife. A win for Coritiba and a defeat for Inter would see the Paraná based club move up into seventh.

On Sunday, current leaders Grêmio take on fourth placed Palmeiras in what is the game of the round. Second placed Flamengo welcome neighbour’s Botafogo to the Maracanã, where a win for Fla could see them return top of the Brasileirão. Vitória (third) could also possibly go top, if they win at struggling Atlético-MG. A defeat for the home side is likely to result in the departure of their coach, Gallo. Also in the relegation zone are Santos who are home to mid table Vasco. Inconsistent Atlético-PR will be keeping a close eye on the bottom four this weekend as they play Figueirense on the back of their heavy 7-1 defeat to Grêmio on Thursday.

In the remaining games of the round, Goiás will be looking to continue where they left off following a midweek victory against fifth placed Cruzeiro when they play Sport at home and São Paulo will be looking to beat plucky Portuguesa at the Morumbi and push into the top four.

Nilmar wants Brasileirão title

The Porto Alegre daily, Correio do Povo today speaks to Nilmar about his return to form and his ambitions with Inter.

He has spent more time in the medical department for the last two than out on the pitch, but at the moment things couldn’t be any better. Nilmar is finally back! He is scoring goals and terrifying his opponents with his pace. With seven goals in the Campeonato Brasileiro, with three in his last three games, Nilmar has emerged as a contender for the Brasileirão’s top goal scorer.

This is not the main concern of the striker however. Nilmar wants to win the Brasileirão with Inter. “To be top scorer would be very good, but I’d prefer to be champion”, he emphasized. Currently the top scorer of the competition is Palmeiras striker Alex Mineiro with nine goals.

“The start of the season was difficult with an injury during the Campeonato Gaucho. Now, I’ve found my form and my basic game has come back and I want to improve. I’m having a run of games without any problems with injuries or cards.”, the striker added.

Nilmar has appeared in 11 of the 14 games Inter have played in the Campeonato Brasileiro with and has only been substituted in three of them.

Nery and Ricardo announced at Beira-Rio

Inter’s newly signed duo Gustavo Nery and Ricardo were officially announced to the media at the Beira-Rio yesterday as the club continues to rebuild the squad.

Speaking to the official club website, left back, Gustavo Nery explained,” I am going to shine again. The structure offered by Inter is marvelous. I’ve been well received by the squad. Now it’s down to me to take advantage of this opportunity.” It is understood that Nery will now undergo ten day of physical training to gain match fitness.

The second signing was goalkeeper Ricardo who finished a loan deal at Vasco da Gama to join Inter. The 24 year old has been closely watched by Inter, after gaining notoriety in the Campeonato Gaucho in 2006, he was voted the best goalkeeper of the competition whilst playing for Caxias.

“I knew about Inter’s interest for about a week, I was very flattered. It is a huge responsibility to play at such a big club and big players such as Clemer and Renan. But I will give my very best for the club”, guaranteed the goalkeeper. Ricardo has signed a one year contract with Inter and is expected to be back up for Clemer as Renan is absent with the Seleção as they prepare for the Olympic Games.

Colorado humour!

You may remember that last week that I posted details of Fernandão as he purchased a motorbike which had been custom designed for the Colorado idol. The bike featured details of Inter’s famous World Club Cup victory over F.C Barcelona, and also featured the Inter crest and the squad as you can see below. Today I can tell you though that Grêmio have also released a similar vehicle according to reports in Porto Alegre. The reports claim that Grêmio are celebrating their own triumph of winning the Toyota Intercontinental Cup which they won in the 1983, records of the victory are scarce but you get the idea..

14° Rodada round up

As the 14th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro finishes, Inter find themselves within touching distance of the top four clubs as they occupy seventh position with 22 points, just two points behind fourth placed Palmeiras. Inter’s next opponents are Minas Gerais based club Ipatinga. Ipatinga are currently bottom of the Brasileirão and Inter will be looking to end their search for an away win at the Estádio Ipatingão.

To the dismay of Colorado’s everywhere, the Brasileirão has a new leader after 14 rounds with Grêmio overtaking Flamengo. Grêmio confirmed their position at the top of table last night with a 7-1 victory over Figueirense, with Perea and Reinaldo both scoring hatricks.

The big game of the night was the derby in São Paulo state as Palmeiras met Santos. The game at the Estádio Palestra Itália saw Palmeiras win 4-2 with all the goals coming in a thrilling first half. In the evenings other match, Sport moved up into midtable with a 1-0 victory over struggling Atlético-PR at the Ilha do Retiro in Recife.

D’Alessandro to wear shirt number 15

With the arrival of Inter’s new Argentine signing hotly anticipated, it was suggested that D’Alessandro would be handed the number 99 shirt as the club look to capitalize on marketing of their new signing. The club shop even began selling D’Alessandro replica shirts with the number 99 but the club has stepped in to prevent this as the transfer has still not yet been confirmed, as the club still awaits a fax from Real Zaragoza confirming that they have accepted Inter’s proposal.

Reports now suggest that D’Alessandro will wear the number 15 shirt. As of next year, Inter must allocate squad numbers to its players as part of a new television contract for the Campeonato Brasileiro. However, in order to maximize marketing opportunities Inter will however introduce the squad numbering system half way through this year’s Brasileirão which is mid August.

I’m personally very much in favour of Inter using squad numbers as it is very common here in European football. I will include a full feature when the squad numbers are announced.

Another day, another name- Alvaro

As Inter prepare to travel later today to the state of Minas Gerais for their forthcoming game against Ipatinga, yet another name has been linked with a possible transfer to the club.

Zero Hora is reporting that Levante defender Alvaro is the latest name being mentioned as the centre back is thought to be seeking a return to Brazil to improve his prospects of a recall to the seleção. The deal for the 29 year old could even be completed within the next week or so as Inter look to strengthen the squad with only Índio, Danny Morais and injury prone Gonzalo Sorondo in contention for places at the centre of Inter’s defence.

Meanwhile, Finalsports.com.br reports that Inter’s iconic former captain Fernandão is also in favour of the player joining Inter. “I guarantee he is a great centre back. He is one of the best centre backs I have seen play. If he comes he will be a great signing. He left Brazil very young and many people do not know him well”, declared Fernandão.

The 29 year old moved to Spain in 2000 after spells with São Paulo, América-MG and Goiás. Alvaro then appeared for Las Palmas and Real Zaragoza before joining Levante who were relegated last season.

Sidnei joins Benfica

Former Inter centre back Sidnei has completed a move to Benfica. The investment group, Gestifute who acquired his rights from Inter last month were initially thought to be close to selling the player to Spanish club, Recreativo but the 19 year old has now joined Benfica on a five year contract.

According to the Portuguese sports paper A Bola, Benfica have paid €5 million for 50% of Sidnei’s registration. He will now partner ex-Cruzeiro defender, Luizao at the heart of Benfica’s defence.

Inter confirm verbal agreement with Carvalho

Despite Inter’s impressive victory last night, attentions were once again turned to transfer speculation following the game as website finalsports.com.br reports.

After confirming the signing of Gustavo Nery and admitting that only a fax from Real Zaragoza is preventing the club officially confirming D’Alessandro, president Vitório Piffero confirmed that attacking midfielder Daniel Carvalho would be the next signing to be announced.

“Everything has been agreed verbally, but always something unexpected can happen”, explained the club president.

This week Daniel Carvalho and his father and lawyer flew back to Russia to confirm the deal with CSKA Moscow. Inter hope to sign Carvalho on loan until June 2009.

Meanwhile, vice president Giovanni Luigi has ruled out the possibility of the club signing another striker. Some reports earlier this week had suggested a new striker was next on the clubs shopping list with several European based names being mentioned but, it has now been confirmed that the club will not make any further signings after Carvalho.

“It is enough, We will stop there because beyond Nilmar, we have Guto, Walter and Adriano as attacking options”, declared Luigi.

14° Rodada latest

Inter are now within touching distance of the top four following last nights superb victory over São Paulo. The win see’s Inter move up into 6th spot in the Brasileirão on 22 points, two points off Cruzeiro who occupy fourth spot. Inter will be hoping that Palmeiras lose tonight when they play Santos. A win or draw for Palmeiras would see them overtake Inter.

At the top of table, Flamengo are now three games without a win as they again slipped up, managing only a draw away to Portuguesa with the game finishing 2-2. Second placed Grêmio can go top tonight and a point ahead of Fla with a win against Figueirense. Below them, third placed Cruzeiro surprisingly lost 1-0 at home to Goiás, with Iarley getting the only goal of the game at the Mineirão.

Perhaps the best game of the night however, was at the Maracanã. Rivals Vasco and Fluminense drew 3-3 in a thrilling encounter in Rio with Vasco 3-1 ahead. Flu managed to score twice, equalizing in the 82nd minute through Tarta. Meanwhile across the city, Botafogo comfortably beat struggling Atlético-MG 4-0 at the Engenhão with Gil among the scorers. Atlético finished the game with nine men following two dismissals as speculation regarding the future of their coach, Gallo intensifies as the club slip into the relegation zone.

Elsewhere, Marquinhos scored twice as Vitória sealed a 2-0 win over Náutico and Coritiba maintained their unbeaten home record with a 1-0 victory over Ipatinga who remain bottom.

D'Alessandro will not be unveiled tonight

With speculation all week suggesting that Andrés D'Alessandro will be unveiled ahead of Inter's match with São Paulo at the Beira-Rio tonight, it has now been confirmed that an official announcement has been delayed.

D'Alessandro is yet to arrive in Porto Alegre and has not completed his medical or signed his new four year contract with the club, and no official announcement is expected until these formalities have been completed.

Poll result: Inter can qualify for Copa Libertadores

The poll finished earlier this week where I asked, could Inter qualify for the Copa Libertadores this year? The final results leave no doubt in the mind of the Colorado’s as 97% of those who voted felt that Inter could qualify. Only 3% thought that Inter would not qualify.

Thanks to the 105 people who voted! Another poll will be up soon, if you have any suggestions for the poll then please feel free let me know!

Inter v São Paulo

Inter face perhaps most difficult challenge in recent weeks as fifth place São Paulo visit the Beira-Rio (9:50pm local time) in the 14th round of the Brasileirão.

The two sides met in Inter’s famous Copa Libertadores final win in 2006 but now the attention must turn to the Campeonato Brasileiro. It is still unconfirmed but it is hoped that the club will officially announce D’Alessandro in front of the fans ahead of tonight’s game, but there is no confirmation that the player has arrived in Porto Alegre as of yet. It is rumoured that D’Alessandro will be given the number 99 shirt to wear at the club. The number is of significance to Inter as the club approaches it’s 100th birthday next year.

With Inter’s new signings being the main talking point with both fans and media all week, Inter need to focus 100% on this evenings match, were a victory could see either side move up the table into the top four. Tite is will be forced again to make changes to the side which drew 1-1 against Náutico in Recife last Sunday. Left back Marcão, and midfielder Magrão are both unavailable through suspension after picking up their third yellow card on Sunday, whilst Renan is absent with the Brazilian squad as they prepare for the forthcoming Olympic Games.

Tite will however, be boosted by the return of Ricardo Lopes, Edinho and Alex as the trio return from suspension. Ramon and Maycon are expected to fill in at left back and midfield. Meanwhile, the match could be the last Beira-Rio appearance for popular midfielder Pablo Guiñazu, who’s drawn out move to the U.A.E seems to coming to an end with Inter set to accept or refuse Al-Jazera’s final offer. Walter is set to step down to the bench following his start at Náutico

São Paulo meanwhile, will have two faces familiar to Inter fans, Muricy Ramalho who enjoyed a successful spell coaching the club and former player Jorge Wagner. Striker Dagoberto is São Paulo’s main goalscoring threat whilst Richarlyson and Joilson return to the side following suspension. Alex Silva and the influential Hernanes are both unavailable as they join Renan in the Olympic Squad.

Probable team: Clemer, Ricardo Lopes, Índio, Danny Morais, Raman, Edinho, Maycon, Guiñazu, Taison, Alex, Nilmar

14° Rodada preview

With new signing D’Alessandro expected to be in the Beira Rio tomorrow evening as he watches his new team, Inter will be looking to put in a good performance against fifth placed São Paulo as the Colorado continue to push into the top four. Inter can move into the Copa Libertadores places for the first time this year if they can win and both Vitória (forth) and Palmeiras (fifth) lose.

Vitoria welcome Náutico to the Barradão whilst Palmeiras face their struggling state rivals, Santos at home. Grêmio who play Figueirense in Florianópolis, and Cruzeiro who are home to Goiás, both have the opportunity to go top of the table with a win. Flamengo who lead the Brasileirão by one point have had a dip in form recently. Flamengo’s match in São Paulo against Portuguesa could be a tricky affair for the Carioca Rubro-Negro, with newly appoint coach Valdir Espinosa taking charge of his first game for Portuguesa. Meanwhile, in Rio, city rivals Vasco and Fluminense meet at the Maracanã.

Agent confirms Gustavo Nery transfer

Gustavo Nery is to arrive in Porto Alegre and sign for Inter tomorrow. Although the club is yet to confirm the signing, the players lawyer confirmed the deal, as did Gustavo Nery’s agent who explained, “Tite will want Gustavo to play in a week”.

Gustavo Nery is expected to be the first of a few announcements within the next few days with D’Alessandro and Daniel Carvalho expected to join the squad.
“I was a junior at Guarani when Gustavo Nery exploeded into the senior side. If he did not have a lot of quality, Inter would not be interested in him. This is an opportunity for him here”, declared his new team mate Alex. Whilst recent signing Rosinei played with Nery in Corinthian’s Brasileirão winning side in 2005. “He is a quality player, experienced and will improve the squad”, Rosinei added. Nery, will also be reunited with another ex-team mate as Nilmar was also a part of the successful Corinthians team in 2005.

Also set to join Nery at Inter within the next few days is goalkeeper Vasco goalkeeper Ricardo. The San Januario based club are currently loaning the 'keeper from Caxias and Vasco are prepared to end his loan. This would allow Inter to take Ricardo on loan for a twelve months. Inter stepped up their search for a goalkeeper as they require back up for Clemer following Renan’s involvement with the Brazilian Olympic squad next month.

Gustavo Nery linked with Inter

This morning the Porto Alegre newspaper Correio do Povo reports that Inter have now targeted 30 year old left back, Gustavo Nery. It is thought that Inter are prepared to offer the player a ‘pay as you play’ contact.

Gustavo Nery is currently without a club following an unsuccessful spell earlier this year with Fluminense. He has previously played for several clubs in both South America and Europe including Santos, Guarani, São Paulo, Werder Bremen, Corinthians and Real Zaragoza.

He has also been capped nine times for the Brazilian national side and was also a member of Corinthians’ 2005 Brasileirão side.

Do you think Gustavo Nery would be a good signing for Inter? Let me know what you think here or at the new forum (click on Saci pic for link)!

“I have received no offers”, confirms Alex

As speculation linking Alex with a move away from the club grows the player was keen to point out where his future lies.

“I have not received any contact or any offers. Nothing has happened to suggest that I am to leave. I will only deal with reality, that today is Inter”, the 26 year old midfielder explained.

“To be able to compete in great competitions with great money is not the main thing at this moment. Today, Inter are a stable club with a squad fighting for titles. In other years I have had situations to make myself financially independent, but as it was not the right club and it was not the time to leave”, added Alex.

Inter to be out of debt within 3 years

A recent audit through the finances of Brazil’s top clubs has concluded that Inter are one of the clubs who will be able to operate out of debt in the near future.

With finances a huge problem for the majority of clubs, Inter have a reputation for being well managed financially. As a result the club are expected to be fully of debt within the next three years. The financial model used by Inter is envied many of Brazil’s top clubs.

There are two key factors which contribute towards Inter’s healthy financial situtation. The club has seen a recent rise the number of it’s members (socio’s). The club aims to have 100,000 socio’s registered by next year when the club will be 100 years old. The socio’s pay a monthly fee to be registered as official club members and there are over 80,000 at the moment.

The second factor is the money raised by the club from transfer sales. Many of the players sold come from the clubs youth set up, ‘categories de base’ (see right column, A-Z of Inter). The club invests heavily at youth level in order to develop talent which can be sold on to European clubs in the future. Alexandre Pato’s transfer to Milan earned the club R$ 38 million last year which had a strong impact on this figures.

Inter set to sign ex-idol Daniel Carvalho!

Breaking news from Porto Alegre today suggests that former Inter star Daniel Carvalho is set to rejoin his beloved club on a six month loan deal from Russian outfit CSKA.

Reports began to circulate last week which linked the Colorado with a return to Internacional as his father and agent confirmed he wanted to return to Brazil after a spell out injured, with Inter being his preferred destination.

With the news this weekend confirming that D’Alessandro would be joining the club, many thought Daniel Carvalho would return to Brazil with another club with both Flamengo and São Paulo, in particular showing a keen interest in the midfielder but his father earlier claimed Inter were very close to resigning the player. He told Radio Gaucha that his son’s contract with Inter had been agreed and now Daniel Carvalho was returning to Russia in order to clear the move with his current club.

With D’Alessandro expected to be confirmed as an Inter player within the next few days, it is now thought that Inter could make a joint announcement presenting the newly acquired Argentine and the return of the former idol, Daniel Carvalho!

The return of one of most popular Inter players in recent years, and the arrival of one of the very best players in South American football in D’Alessandro, will undoubtedly show the club’s intentions of succeeding at the very highest level over the forthcoming months as the club nears its centenary.

Inter to receive official Guiñazu offer tomorrow

Gaucho football website finalsports.com claim that Inter will tomorrow receive an official offer from Al-Jazira for Pablo Guiñazu.

The club hold a meeting tomorrow morning with Guiñazu’s agent Régis Marques. With him, the agent will bring official confirmation of the U.A.E based club’s offer for the popular midfielder which is thought to be worth US$4.5 million.

There has been intense speculation in recent weeks surrounding Guiñazu’s future at the club as Al-Jazira who are coached by former coach, Abel Braga are prepared to offer the Argentine a substantial contract in order to secure his signature.

“I am arriving tomorrow to have a meeting with the Inter directors. They rejected the first offer and now I come with another one. As I have always said, the future of Guiñazu is in the hands of Inter and if they do not accept the offer, the player will continue to wear the colours of Inter”, explained the agent.

San Lorenzo site confirms D’Alessandro departure

The official website of Argentine club San Lorenzo now confirms that midfielder Andrés D’Alessandro has left the club.

The site confirms that the club will not receive any financial profit from D’Alessandro’s transfer to Inter as the player was owned by an investment group and not the club. Inter are yet to officially confirm the transfer and will wait until the player has passed his medical and signed the contract which is expected to happen within the next 24 hours.

Inter seek centre forward to play alongside Nilmar / Inter busca um centroavante para jogar ao lado de Nilmar

Zero Hora reports that D’Alessandro may not be the last major signing to arrive at the Beira-Rio in August as speculation grows that Inter are actively looking to sign a new striker.

Immediate names being linked include Real Zaragoza’s Ricardo Oliveira (who was been linked with Inter previously), ex-São Paulo forward, Graphite who is currently playing in Germany with Wolfsburg and also Márcio Nobre of Turkish side Besiktas, formerly of Paraná Clube.

Also being mentioned is ex-Inter player and Colorado, Rafael Sobis who is set to leave Real Betis this summer. Whilst his club have confirmed they have received a large offer for the player, he is not expected to return to South America.

It is believed that Inter want to secure the services of a new striker in order to maximize the chances that D’Alessandro is set to create in his new role at the club. Tite has often played attacking midfielder Alex in a more advanced role leaving Nilmar often isolated up front in his own, although young strikers Walter and Guto were both given striker roles yesterday to support the Inter number nine.

Inter are expected to be able to finance a deal for a new striker as rumors grow that the club could be expected to lose Guiñazu and Alex. Guiñazu has been heavily linked with move to the middle east although Al-Jazira are yet to meet Inter’s valuation for the Argentine and Alex is rumored to be attracting the attention of Espanyol who are long time admirers of the left footed midfielder. Doubts over the future of striker Adriano also continue to surround the player with some rumors linking the player with a move to Portugual.

Several fringe players are set to leave Inter in the coming weeks with Jonas, Bustos, Orozco, Ji-Paraná and Michel being touted to agents working in the Swedish and Norwegian transfer markets.

13ª Rodada round up

Inter’s draw last night see’s the club move up into seventh place in the Brasileirão. Despite the continued run of away games without a victory, the Colorado are four points from the top four spaces. Inter now face fifth placed São Paulo on Wednesday. São Paulo will arrive at the Beira-Rio having won 2-1 yesterday at home to Botafogo.

At the top of the Campeonato Brasileiro, Flamengo saw their lead reduced to just one point following their defeat to Vitória at the Maracana. Three points now separate the top five places as Grêmio, now a point behind Fla, moved up into second place above Cruzeiro on Saturday following their 1-0 victory over the Belo Horizonte based club.

Palmeiras dropped out of the top four this weekend following their surprise 3-2 defeat in Goiás. Their next opponents will be São Paulo state rivals Santos as the two meet on Thursday. Santos picked up their second win of the Brasileirão last night with a 1-0 win over Sport. After briefly being bottom of the Campeonato, Santos go back above Ipatinga who won 4-1 against Portuguesa on Saturday. The defeat spelt the end for coach Benazzi who was unexpectedly dismissed, Portuguesa yesterday named Valdir Espinosa as his replacement.

Tite plays down away form concerns

Following another penalty and another game away from home without victory, Tite remained positive about the team’s away form as he explained to the media after yesterday’s game.

“We are not a side incapable of being successful away from home, but a side capable of being without four first team players and to play well away from home against a team who are having a great season. The process to search for victory ripens as we are playing well and keeping high standards to create chances. The victory will come from this”, explained Tite. He later added,”The last two games, I expect four or six points, we have achieved 66% of all points since I took over, which is championship form. The next phase is to push up into the top four.”

Penalty jinx continues as Nilmar rescue's Inter

Internacional continue their search for their elusive first away win in the Brasileirão as Nilmar’s late equalizer earned the Colorado a well earned point against Náutico this evening.

Inter took to the field with three changes to the side with Jonas, Maycon and Walter all coming into the starting lineup as predicted.

Náutico stated the strongest and Renan was forced into making two early saves as the home side searched for the opening goal. Inter’s first opportunity came from a move inspired by Walter, in the Inter half the young striker turned and hit a thirty yard pass through for Nilmar to run onto. Náutico’s ‘keeper Eduardo however, was quick off his line and pushed Nilmar’s shot wide for a corner. Eduardo was again forced into action to save from Taison after he jinked through the defence, striking the ball from the edge of the box to earn Inter anther corner. The resulting corner saw Inter work the ball into the box and allowed Magrão to flick the ball onto the far post where Nilmar, unmarked, again struck the ball into the Náutico keeper who then pushed the ball over the bar as it rebounded in the area. Despite Inter’s pressure, Náutico created a chance of their own as Renan could only watch as a thirty yard effort smack against the cross bar and over. Nilmar then had another chance to give Inter the lead. As the number nine chased Maycon’s long pass into the box he was bundled over as both he and a Náutico defender fell inside the box, somehow Nilmar retained the ball and off balance, shot wide from ten yards out. The last chance of the half again fell to Inter as Magrão’s free kick was saved by the goalkeeper only for Índio to head the rebound over the bar for the first half to finish goalless.

Inter rather confusingly entered the field for the second half in a change of shirt, this time wearing all red unlike the first half wear they wore the away kit. Once again, the home side started the half stronger, earning a corner as their shot was blocked by Marcão. Náutico again threatened Inter, this time, shooting wide from all over thirty yards out. Things were to worsen for Inter as a Náutico midfielder passed the ball across the box, their striker was brought to the ground by Taison and as the referee pointed to the spot. Radames (59) scored from the spot putting the ball into the bottom left corner, giving Náutico a 1-0 lead. Moments after scoring, Náutico almost doubled their lead. Again the ball was played in from the right hand side into the Inter box but the Náutico strikers could not get a clean shot on goal as the Inter defence pressured the ball and eventually forced a Náutico player to shot wide from a difficult angle, ten yards out. Inter made changes with Andrezinho and Guto making his first appearance in the senior team. Guto immediately threatened Náutico arriving late in the box only to see his diving header go wide of the post. Inter continued to push and were rewarded after Andrezinho and Guto linked up for Walter to manage to get a shot in as he was tightly marked. The shot caught the Náutico keeper off his line and the ball bounced off the bar and landed to Nilmar (87) who equalized for Inter. Both teams managed to create a further chance each to get the second goal with Nilmar hitting over the bar as the game came to an end.

Renan set for Olympic Games

Goalkeeper Renan will play his final game for the club tomorrow before flying off to prepare for next month’s Olympic Games.

Renan will fly for Rio tomorrow to Paris where he will meet us with the Brazilian Olympic Squad which will also include former Colorado’s Rafael Sobis and Alexandre who are of course managed by another former Inter player, Dunga.

Amongst Renan’s luggage will be a bible, a photo of his family and the Rio Grande Do Sul state flag! The vastly experienced Clemer is set to deputise in Renan’s absence with Inter expected to sign Caxias owned goalkeeper, Ricardo as back up.

Transfer chaos continues..

With D’Alessandro’s arrival dominating all the headlines relating to Inter the club also remain active on several offer fronts with players set to join and leave the club.

It is expected that goalkeeper Ricardo will arrive at the Beira Rio within the next few days as Inter look to add another goalkeeper to the squad as Renan will be unavailable for a month as he competes’ in the Olympic games. Ricardo is currently on loan to Vasco da Gama but is owned by Rio Grande Do Sul club, Caxias.

Meanwhile there are expected to be up to four possible departures. First on the list is Márcio Mossoró. He returned to the Beira-Rio earlier this month following a successful loan spell in Portugal. He has been training alone since coming back to Porto Alegre whilst his future was decided and he will now join another Portuguese club, Sporting Braga for €1.2 million. Mossoró had previously been linked with a move to neighboring rivals Juventude but will not return to Europe.

Following him to Sporting Braga in Portugal are two other names. Firstly, striker Michel, who played for São Paulo state based club, Marilia on loan last year and joined Vitória on loan this year but failed to secure a place in their first team squad. He is now expected to complete a loan move to Portugal.

Michael could be partnered up front for Sporting Braga next season with another Inter player, as Adriano has been linked with a move away from Beira-Rio. Adriano who has featured regularly in Tite’s team selection could depart to Europe paving the way for Walter to break into the Inter team alongside Nilmar.

Finally fallen star, Chiquinho is set to move away from Inter and rebuild his once promising career. Currently out of favour and training alone at the club, the left back is expected to move to northern Brazil and join struggling Série B side, Fortaleza.

D’Alessandro set to arrive in Porto Alegre!!

Inter are due to announce one of the most significant transfers in the clubs 99 year old history as media reports across South America confirm that Internacional will now sign one of the continents best players. The deal was concluded following complex negotiations with the private investment group, Real Zaragoza and the player, who will sign a four year contract in the next few days.

Andrés D'Alessandro is to arrive in Porto Alegre on Tuesday and will begin his four year contract on completion of his medical. The transfer is one of if not, the, biggest financially in Brazilian football, with D’Alessandro costing US$7 million.

27 year old D’Alessandro was born in Buenos Aires where he emerged through River Plate’s youth system. He rose to prominence when winning the 2001 World Youth Championships with Argentina where he was recognised as one of the tournaments best players. After seventy appearances for River, D’Alessandro made the inevitable move to Europe in 2003 where he signed for German side, Wolfsburg for a club record €9m. The following year D’Alessandro succeeded on the world stage again, this time winning gold in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

D'Alessandro continued to play at Wolfsburg until 2006 when he made the move to the English Premier League, joining Portsmouth on loan. Following the loan he moved to another European country, joining Real Zaragoza in Spain with Portsmouth, Benfica and Atlético Madrid all keen on signing the player.

Earlier this year, D’Alessandro returned to South America with Buenos Aires based club, San Lorenzo on loan from Zaragoza. The next chapter in D’Alessandro’s career will see the player move to Brazil with Inter as the club challenge for a Copa Libertadores place as they seek to achieve more titles in the clubs centenary in 2009.

WELCOME TO INTER!!!!

13ª Rodada preview

The games continue to come thick and fast in the Campeonato Brasileiro as we approach the 13th round of matches.

If Inter can achieve their first away win of the Brasileirão on Sunday, they can possibly move up to as far as fourth spot but this would rely on a combination of results. A Náutico victory would see them rise about Inter.

This weekend’s games seea top of the table clash as Grêmio (third) play Cruzeiro (second). Victory tonight in Porto Alegre for Cruzeiro would see them go top of the table ahead of Flamengo who play Vitória on Sunday. A win for either Vitória or São Paulo, who welcome Botafogo to the Morumbi, should be enough to see them within the top four by the end of the round. Libertadores qualification chasing Palmeiras visit struggling Goiás whilst crisis club Santos welcome Sport (13th) to the Vila Belmiro.

D’Alessandro agrees Inter contract

The popular Argentine sports paper Olé reports that D’Alessandro has agreed a deal with Inter. Olé reports that according to the player’s agent, Internacional will pay US$7million for the midfielder. Despite the claims there is no official confirmation from Inter although speculation suggests that an announcement could be made early next week.

Inter await D’Alessandro answer

Inter should today find out if their offer for D’Alessandro is to be accepted. The club has made offers to both a private investment group and to Real Zaragoza who jointly own the player.

Speculation has been gathering in recent days that Inter cannot reach an agreement with the investment group which could hinder the proposed transfer which would see the San Lorenzo player join Inter. Vitório Piffero explained, “The investment group is a big problem. We have made the proposal and if they should answer with other numbers, then we are not going to increase our offer.”

12ª Rodada round up

Inter’s move to within three points of the top four in the Brasileirão but are still behind São Paulo and Figueirense who both won. Inter’s next opponents, Náutico are the biggest fallers in round 12 as they drop to ninth spot following their incredible defeat to Portuguesa.

Flamengo’s shock 1-0 defeat to Coritiba last night, see’s their lead in the Brasileirão reduced to just two points. Second placed Cruzeiro, are two points ahead of third placed Grêmio but this could change on the weekend as the two sides meet in 13ª Rodada. Meanwhile in the relegation zone, Goiás’ 1-1 draw with Vasco in the São Januario see’s them close the gap on Atlético-MG (16) to just three points. Ipatinga remained rooted to the bottom of the table with Santos, who confirmed yesterday that their coach Cuca will not be resigning.

Índio confident ahead of Atlético-MG game

Índio spoke of the teams development today and his confidence of continuing Inter’s undefeated run of four games as they take on Atlético-MG later tonight who are led by former Inter coach, Alexandre Gallo.

“The team’s growing and we are evolving each day. We got the victory against Coritiba and we have gone four games without losing. Tite has brought back the footprint and style that we had in the Campeonato Gaucho”, explained Índio. We will respect the opposition but inside our stadium the three points are ours”, he declared.

Al-Jazira should formalize Guiñazu proposal / Al-Jazira deverá formalizar proposta por Guiñazu

Zero Hora reports today that the agent of Pablo Guiñazu is encouraging Al-Jazira to meet Inter’s valuation of the player. The popular midfield was expected to join Al-Jazira after it was reported that the club would be making Inter a substantial offer. Al-Jazira had reportedly planned to offer Inter US $5 million for Guiñazu but Inter demanded that unless they received US$ 7 million for the Argentine then he would not be leaving the club.

Al-Jazira never made a formal offer to Inter and now the club plan to extend Guiñazu’s contract for an extra year with an improved salary. Despite Inter’s plan to secure Guiñazu’s future, his representative claims that the player has no interest in signing an extension to his contract and that Al-Jazira should make an official offer.

Taffarel talks to FIFA

Former Internacional goalkeeper and Colorado, Claudio Taffarel appears in an interview on FIFA's official website.

The USA '94 World Cup winner discusses his life since retiring from football where he has now set up a players agency. The agencey was involved in Fernandão's recent transfer to Al-Gharafa in Qatar.

Inter v Atlético-MG

With reports of D’Alessandro being announced as an Inter signing, the Colorado must now turn their attentions to their 12th Round visit of Atlético-MG who are 16th place in the Brasileirão.

A victory for Inter will see them extend their undefeated run to five games and will remain undefeated in the Beira-Rio as Atlético look for their first win at the Beira-Rio since 1986!

Inter welcome back Guiñazu as he returns from suspensions and was much missed in midfield in Sunday’s draw against Atlético-PR. Tite could however be without Magrão who has a slight injury, Andrezinho and Maycon will be the alternatives if Magrão is confirmed as being unavailable.

Atlético arrive at the Beira-Rio without an away win in the Brasileirão and a defeat for them could see them fall into the relegation soon if Goiás win at Vasco.

Elton is expected to replace injured midfielder Dejan Petkovic and Cesar Prate will return from suspension, whilst recent signing Danilinho is unavailable. Promising Bolivian striker, Castillo is set to start on the bench.

Probable team: Renan, Ricardo Lopes, Índio, Danny Morais, Marcão, Edinho, Maycon, Guiñazu, Taison, Alex, Nilmar

Brasileirão latest

With all but three matches of the 12th round being played last night, Cruzeiro took full advantage establishing themselves in second spot. They are now just two points behind leaders, Flamengo who play tonight. Cruzeiro beat Atlético-PR 1-0 in Belo Horizonte whilst Grêmio slipped up drawing 2-2 against Sport. At the Estádio Palestra Itália, Palmeiras overcome Fluminense with a 3-1 win. The result see’s Palmeiras move into fourth place in the Campeonato, overtaking Vitória who were defeated 3-1 by São Paulo in Salvador.

At the bottom of the table, Ipatinga remain bottom after losing 4-0 to Botafogo in Rio de Janeiro, whilst the problems continue at troubled Santos as they lost 3-0 away to Figueirense. It is widely expected that Santos will today confirm that their coach, Cuca will be leaving the club.

Arguably the best match of the round so far was at the Portuguesa’s Estádio Canindé.The home side trailed 2-0 at half time to Náutico. In the second half Portuguesa completed a remarkable comeback equalizing in the 83rd minute, Jonas then sealed the win for Portuguesa, scoring a 90th minute winner handing Náutico’s new coach Pintado, a defeat in his first game in charge.

Colombian pair face uncertain future

Ahead of the impending arrival of D’Alessandro, doubts have arisen over the future of Inter’s two Colombian defenders, Bustos and Orozco. If the Argentine does join Internacional, then the club will have five foreign players in the squad. However, CBF regulations state that only three foreigners can be named in the team.

Bustos and Orozco have not be selected by Tite in recent games as speculations grows that they will both be leaving Inter in the near future. “I received few chances because I was with Colombian national team, I was almost away for one month and when I returned, Tite had already chosen his team.”, complained Orozco.

The centre back has lost his space in the team to Danny Morais in recent games and the club have already signed two more centre backs in Bolivar and Danilo Silva. Fellow Colombian, Bustos has also lost his place at right back with Ricardo Lopes securing the number 2 shirt and must compete for second choice along with another recent arrival, Angelo.

São Paulo monitor D’Alessandro deal

São Paulo are thought to be paying close attention to Inter’s negotiations for D’Alessandro and could be set to make their own offer.

This would not be the first time São Paulo have made a late offer to steal a potential Inter player as they signed Dagoberto, Andre Lima and Miranda all in recent years when Inter were close to signing them.

Daniel Carvalho is Plan B / Daniel Carvalho é o Plano B

Zero Hora today reports that Daniel Carvalho’s father says his son is prepared to give up part of his salary in order for him to return to Inter as the player seeks a return to Brazil from CSKA.

Former Inter president and advisor Fernando Carvalho (no relation) refused to speculate, “There’s not doubt that he is a big player and would be an asset to any squad here in Brazil, but we are not going to dicuss this publicly”, he explained.

Fernando Carvalho has been in Argentina this week where he has been trying to conclude a deal which would see Andres D’Alessandro join the club. “It is an extremley difficult deal. We are dealing with European values. We are being careful and hope negoiations can advance, but we will not regret it if we cannot continue if the values cannot be agreed”, he declared.
D’Alessandro is currently with the San Lorenzo squad as they prepare for a pre-season tornument in Mar del Plata, Argentina.

Yesterday evening Inter president Vitório Píffero returned to Brazil following negotiations in Buenos Aires. He confirmed that Inter’s proposal did not satisfy the investment group who own 50% of D’Alessandro’s rights. “Internacional have made its maximum offer and we cannot exceed. The value is very high,” claimed Píffero.

Despite this latest setback, it still thought that the deal will concluded and D’Alessandro will sign either a three or four year (depending on reports) contract with Internacional which would make him available to the club in August.

It remains to be seen whether Inter have an interest in signing both D'Alessandro and Daniel Carvalho. If D'Alessandro does not sign, then it is highly likely that Daniel Carvalho will be his replacement. Due to the sheer size of the figures being discussed (€7 million, which is unheard of by Brazilian clubs) and the complexity of the deal, with two parties having a financial interest in the player, the deal could drag on other the next few days and possibly even weeks. I will do my very best to inform you of all the latest news as it breaks.

Daniel Carvalho linked with Inter return

On a day when D’Alessandro’s signing to Inter caught the attention of the red half of Porto Alegre, Radio Bandeirantes report of the return of former player Daniel Carvalho.

Currently playing in Russia for CSKA, Daniel Carvalho is said to be seeking a return to Brazil as he looks to regain match fitness following injury and has sounded out Inter as his preferential choice. The Pelotas born midfielder came from Inter’s categorias de base (youth team) and still remains a popular name at Inter since leaving Brazil in 2003.

Despite the news of D’Alessandro joining, it is thought that there is a good possibility of the 23 year old rejoining Inter. The club would only be required to pay his wages as he would join on loan for the rest of the year. Daniel Carvalho remains a keen Internacional supporter and his father is also said to be keen to see his son return to the Beira-Rio.

Daniel Carvalho to return to Inter AND D'Alessandro? Very exciting times for the club! Do you think this will happen? Let me know here or at the new forum- http://internacionaluk.proboards105.com/index.cgi

12ª Rodada preview

As the Brasileirão approaches round 12, the competition see’s another round of midweek matches take place over the next two evenings.

A win for either Cruzeiro or Grêmio can reduce Flamengo’s lead at the top of the table to just two points. A win in Belo Horizonte for Cruzeiro do would surely spell the end for Atlético-PR’s under pressure coach, Roberto Fernandes. Meanwhile, Ipatinga can move off the bottom of the table on goal difference if they can beat Botafogo in Rio and Santos lose at 8th placed Figueirense. Having surprisingly sacked Leandro Machado on Monday, managerless Náutico visit Portuguesa.

A full match preview for Inter v Atlético-MG will follow shortly.

Inter close to signing new defender

In addition to today’s major transfer news, newspaper Zero Hora is also reporting that the arrival of another new signing is imminent.

Centre back Danilo Silva is close to joining Inter on loan until the end of the year. Currently at São Paulo based club Guarani, the 21 year old is owned by the investment group, Traffic.
With Inter losing Sidnei and Sorondo facing a month out injured, the centre back is expected to join the squad as a back up for current first choice centre backs, Índio and Danny Morais.

Gil arrives at Botafogo

Inter striker Gil was officially presented yesterday at his new club Botafogo where he will play for the rest of the year. Gil will be expected to solve the club’s goal scoring problems at the Estádio Engenhão. Having played for Corinthians and Cruzeiro prior to joining Inter, the 27 year old will be looking for a regular football after being used largely as a substitute at the Beira-Rio.

“I want to get back to the standard that everybody remembers me by. I cannot repeat it at Inter as I was not playing. Here I want to have more chances and become an important part of the squad.” he explained.

Gil is expected to make his debut for Botafogo against bottom club Ipatinga in the 12th round of the Brasileirão.

Breaking News - D'Alessandro to sign for Inter!

Vitorio Piffero and Fernando Carvalho are in Buenos Aires and have reached an agreement with invenstors who own 50% of the players rights according to Zero Hora. The club are now exoected to announce D’Alessandro as an Internacional player ahead of the Altetico-MG game at the Beira-Rio this Thursday.

D’Alessandro’s contract at Inter is thought to be for three years and the transfer will be jointly financed by the club and São Paulo entrepreneur Delcyr Sonda. Sonda who made his money from his supermarket chain will invest US$5 million (around R$8 million) whilst Inter will play around US$ 2 millions (around R$ 3.2 million).

Sonda is prepared to invest in the 27 year old because Inter have guaranteed that D’Alessandro will be sold to the financially lucrative Arabian market before the end of his contract. This would then allow Sonda to recuperate his investment.

D’Alessandro is already thought to of agreed his contract with Inter and even received a private phone call from fellow Argentine Guiñazu who gave his spoke about the club with his new colleague. The deal is also thought to of been agreed quickly because his current club San Lorenzo are also in crisis and have had to delay salaries to it’s player for the last three months. Yesterday, San Lorenzo’s coach, Miguel Angel Russain was informed of the decision and that D’Alessandro will no longer be available to him as his side prepare for a pre-season tournament with River Plate, Independiente and Racing.

As well as the arrival of D’Alessandro, Inter will also keep hold of Guiñazu. Despite intense speculation, Al-Jazira did not present an official proposal to the club to secure his transfer. Inter will not sell Guiñazu unless they received US$5 million (around R$8 million). He will now remain at the Beira-Rio and will receive a wage increase and contract extension which will see the Argentine remain at the club until 2012.
This could be one of the most inspired signings by the club in recent years! Let me know what you think here or at the new forum at http://internacionaluk.proboards105.com/index.cgi

D’Alessandro deal “not impossible”

In an interview with Plantão Gaúcha Esportes, Internacional director Silvio Silveira confirmed that he has been in Buenos Aires in the last few days to investigate the legal conditions surrounding the possible transfer of D’Alessandro and to find out if the player has interest in playing in Brazil.

“We have been in Buenos Aires recently to confirm the player’s situation in relation to its federative rights. He is jointly owned, partly by Real Zaragoza and partly by Argentine investors. We also wanted to make contact with the player’s solicitor to find out if he has an interest in joining Inter. This was my mission. I then passed the information onto former-president Fernando Carvalho”, declared Silveira before adding, “The business is very difficult. It is very complicated. Mainly because there are three parties involved, Zaragoza, the investors and the actual player. It is a very difficult situation, but not impossible”.

When asked whether the player had confirmed whether he would have an interest in playing for Internacional, Silveira admitted that he was still unsure whether D’Alessandro was interested. “I did not speak with to the player. What I perceive in the Argentine press was that they believe that the players there will not come to Brazil and that players here will not go there. The press will tell you there is a great football rivalry which exists between the two countries. I think that this does not exist because we Argentines in Brazil and Brazilians have done well in Argentina. I cite the case of Iarley, an idol of Boca Juniors. In Brazil we have some cases too, here as with Guiñazu. This proves that players can play in both countries.” explained Silveira.

On your bike Fernandão!

Inter idol Fernandão has made one last purchase before leaving to start his new life in the U.A.E following is transfer from Internacional. He has bought an Internacional customized motorbike from specialist company Tarso Marques Concept.

The bike is painted entirely in Inter colors’ and features the club’s badge, details of the team and the World Club Cup trophy. Tarso Marques Concept is a workshop which specializes in customizing different vehicles ranging from bikes and cars to planes and boats. The bike will remain in Brazil until next Saturday, when Fernandão will finally move to the U.A.E.

Rádio Bandeirantes: Recoba not Inter target

Following earlier reports, Rádio Bandeirantes claim that they have confirmed with Vitório Píffero that Recoba is not a target for Internacional.

The Inter president is currently in Uruguay, where he is thought to be trying to sign a player. No names have been confirmed but it is thought to be an attacking midfielder which Tite has requested. Speculation has then let to suggestions that Recoba of Inter Milan was Inter’s new target but Píffero has this afternoon told the radio station that the club do not want to invest so heavily in a player who’s 32 years old.

Whilst there has not been any official confirmation about Inter’s interest in Recoba, it may be worth noting that club’s directors were also previously keen to dispel talk of others joining. Sorondo, Guiñazu and Magrão were all signed shortly after Inter telling the press that they would not be joining the club!

Inter turn their attention to Recoba as D’Alessandro hopes deteriorate

Club president Vitorio Piffero has admitted that the clubs hopes of signing D’Alessandro have deteriorated as Inter struggle to put together a financial package to acquire the players rights.

Despite this set back Inter have now turned their interest to the hugely talented Uruguayan playmaker, Alvaro Recoba. The 32 year old is currently owned by Inter Milan having spent last season on loan at Torino where he made 22 appearances.

Although early reports are very sketchy and unconfirmed, Recoba would fall in with Inter’s policy of recruiting European based players looking to return to South America. The arrival of Recoba would also be significant to Inter as the club marks its centenary next year. A move to Brazil could also benefit Recoba as he looks to secure his future in the Uruguayan international team with the 2010 World Cup approaching.

It is thought that Inter would face competition from several clubs to sign Recoba including Atlético-PR as well as Manchester City and Porto. It is not known whether Inter’s interest in Recoba would be pending on the departure of Guiñazu to Al-Jazira.

Do you think Inter can sign Recoba? Post your views here or at the new forum- http://internacionaluk.proboards105.com/index.cgi

Índio becomes second top scorer

33 year old defender Índio has become Inter’s second top goal scorer following his equalizing goal against Atlético-PR yesterday. His powerful header was his 3rd goal of this year’s Brasileirão and his 17th of his Inter career.

Índio’s record is only bettered by influential midfielder Alex and pacey striker Nilmar who both have 4 goals. Indio who wears the number 3 shirt for Inter now averages a goal every 10 games, an impressive record for a defender.

11ª Rodada round up

Despite the clubs poor away form Inter’s are now unbeaten in four games. The point unfortunately sees Inter fall place in the Brasileirão to 9th position and five points from the top four (Copa Libertadores places).

In round 12, Inter’s next opponents are struggling Atlético-MG (16th) who will be looking for a win at the Beira-Rio to ease the pressure following their defeat to city rivals Cruzeiro in the Belo Horizonte derby.

Elsewhere, Flamengo maintained their lead at the top of the table with a comfortable 3-1 over Vasco in the ‘Clássico dos Milhões’ derby. Fla remain 5 points ahead of Cruzeiro and Grêmio who both won. In São Paulo, the big game of the weekend was between São Paulo and Palmeiras. São Paulo’s 2-1 win moves them up into 7th spot. Meanwhile, Náutico coach Leandro Machado is said to be close to getting sacked following his sides Recife derby defeat to Sport, despite leading the relegation candidates to healthy league position. At the other end of the table, Ipatinga remain bottom after a 1-0 defeat to Figueirense whilst struggling Santos picked up a point in their 2-2 draw with Botafogo. Lowly Fluminense finally appear to be turning their attention to the Brasileirão following their unsuccessful Copa Libertadores campaign. Flu beat Vitória 2-1 in Rio.

Tite frustrated as Inter continue to search for away win

Tite revealed his frustration to the press following last night’s game as Inter continue without an away victory in eleven attempts.

“We had enough chances to win the game in a very even game against a team who are very strong at home”, he explained. When asked about Atlético’s controversial penalty, Tite was reluctant to comment, “I cannot say, I couldn’t see it. I want to see it before I can comment on it but the players and others who saw it are saying that it was not a foul.”

Tite also revealed that the midfield was also a cause for concern with the absence of the suspended Guiñazu, “I selected Maycon in place of Guiñazu to help preserve the shape of the team but I do not have a player similar to Guiñazu.”. Tite also commented on what he felt needed to be improved, “We need to get the balance right in midfield. That would also help us offensively.”

Tite was then asked if he felt the club’s position just behind the Copa Libertadores places (top 4) was satisfactory until the new signings become available in August, “ I cannot wait until the new signings are available in August. I have to worry about the next game, not when we will have Bolívar, Rosinei or anyone else. A great club like Internacional lives on victories as any coach will tell you.”

Índio rescues point for Inter

Inter continued their miserable away form tonight in the city of Curitiba as Índio’s late equalizer earned the Colorado a point against Atlético Paranaense.

As the blog predicted yesterday, Tite opted for Maycon over Adriano to replace the suspend Guiñazu who’s creative presence was sorely missed.

Atlético almost took an early lead after an early corner was headed just wide of the goal past Renan in the first minute. As neither team failed to create Atlético again came close when Joãozinho snatched at the ball and hit over from eight yards out. As the uneventful first half came to an end, Atlético’s number 10 Ferreira again threatened Inter, this time sending a shot from outside the box into the side netting.

Atlético took the lead early on in the second half in fortunate fashion, as they were awarded a controversial penalty after Douglas slipped on the ball and fell in the box. Alan Bahia (58) comfortably put the ball past Renan to give the home side the lead.
Alex tried to revive Inter but he saw several of his free kicks comfortably saved by Atlético goalkeeper, Galatto. Moments later, it was Renan who would be forced to keep Inter in the game as he saved from close range following good link up play from Alan Bahia and Ferreira.
Inter’s equalizer came as Índio (81) headed in from close range as he found himself unmarked from Alex’s corner. As both teams finished the game with half chances to secure the three points, neither Atlético or Inter could complain with the draw.

Inter can reach 6th place this weekend

Currently 8th with 14 points, a win against Atlético-PR could see Inter move as far up as 6th place in the Brasileirão. For this to happen, Vasco (7th) must also lose this evening's big Rio derby ‘Clássico dos Milhões’ against Flamengo and Sport Recife must beat Náutico who are 6th.

If all of this were to happen and of course, Inter manage their first away win of the championship, Inter would go above Náutico on goal difference.

Rosinei finally signs for Inter

Internacional have officially confirmed the club’s second new signing to arrive in August, as Rosinei finally completed his one year loan from Real Murcia in Spain. The midfielder completed his medical on Friday night before being presented to the media at the Beira-Rio yesterday afternoon.

The 25 year old who played under his new coach Tite whilst at Corinthians spoke told the clubs official website, “My family are all very happy, I liked what I have seen of Inter. I have been well received by everybody here, now I am going to contribute as much as I can for the team. I am going to give my best, I am here to work.”

“He’s a versatile player, he’s determined and scores goals”, club vice president Giovanni Luigi declared. “Despite being young, he has considerable experience and has already won titles. We have signed a complete and fantastic player”, Luigi announced.

Rosinei will now train with Inter although he cannot play until August's international transfer window along with another recent signing, Bolívar.

Tite completes first month as coach of Inter / Tite completa um mês no comando do Inter

As Inter prepare for this evenings game away to Atlético-PR, Zero Hora looks back at Tite's first month in charge at Inter and the challenges that lie's ahead as the club still search for it's first away win of the Brasileirão.

Tite’s appointment as coach was initially questioned by many and the Tite’s arrival was treated with distrust and resistance from some sections of the club, due to his history with Grêmio. He needed immediate results.

Needing to adapt as soon as possible, Tite would be the first to arrive at the training sessions and the last to leave in order to learn as much as he could. His enthusiastic approach pleased the club’s staff and players and his knowledge and pleasantness is praised by everybody.

The results of Tite’s work have been evident on the field achieving an impressive 66% of possible points. Having only lost to Vitória and drawing with Grêmio when a win was deserved, Tite has led Inter to victories over Botafogo, Coritiba and Goiás as he reshapes the team and its approach. The main change which has led to Inter’s return to form is that Tite has managed to recuperate the squads confidence, from which, the team have consistently been able to perform to a high standard.

“The competitive spirit is back”, confirmed key midfielder Alex, who’s form has improved greatly under Tite. “We feel competitive, organized and responsible and we’re in good form. We are now reaping the fruits”, added the number 10.

Now that Tite has organised and reshaped the team, he now faces another challenge- improving the club’s disappointing away form. The last game Inter won away in the Campeonato Brasileiro was last November against Vasco. Since then, Inter have suffered nine defeats and a draw. As Inter strive to qualify for the Copa Libertadores this season then the away record must now be improved.

Blog has new forum!

Someone contacted me yesterday and gave me some help on how to set a forum up.

So, here is the brand new Internacional UK forum- http://internacionaluk.proboards105.com/index.cgi

It's the first English Inter forum in the world! I hope this can help create an english language 'Colorado Community'.

There are still a few improvements that I want to make but it is now open to everyone.

There is also a thread for other Brazilian clubs and players to be discussed as well as Inter and I hope everyone can enjoy it.

As always, all comments and suggestions are welcome!

Inter v Atlético Paranaense

As Inter depart for their visit to Curitiba later today, Tite will make three changes for Sunday’s game at the Arena da Baixada. Renan will return in goal following suspension and Danny Morais will replace injured Gonzalo Sorondo in central defence. Tite must decide whether midfielder Maycon or striker Adriano will replace the suspended Guiñazu.

“Guiñazu is hard working and can also create, so he helps the team play. Without him we do not have a similar player in the squad. With Maycon, we can profit more from defensive consistency, but I lose a little in creativity. Maycon would play alongside Edinho. With Adriano, who is in excellent form at the moment, the team is stronger offensively but I would have to change Alex’s position”, pondered Tite.

Given that Inter are still without an away win in the Campeonato Brasileiro, it is thought that Tite will prefer the more defensive option of Maycon with Adriano available on the bench.

Atlético-PR meanwhile, who are unbeaten at home, have an injury hit squad. Having suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Fluminense at the Maracanã in the previous round of the Brasileirão, coach Roberto Fernandes finds himself under pressure from both the club and its supporters. Pedro Oldoni and Joãozinho are expected to play up front in a 4-4-2 formation.

Probable team: Renan, Ricardo Lopes, Índio, Danny Morais and Marcão, Edinho, Maycon (Adriano), Magrão, Taison, Alex, Nilmar.

Inter step up goalkeeper search

Following reports earlier this week that Inter were close to signing Cruzeiro goalkeeper Lauro, the club are now thought to be turning their attention to 23 year old Ricardo.

Ricardo is currently based in Rio de Janeiro with Vasco da Gama where he is on loan from his hometown club Caxias. A move to Inter would see him returning to his home state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Rosinei arrives in Porto Alegre to sign for Inter / Rosinei está em Porto Alegre e deve assinar com o Inter

Zero Hora are reporting that midfielder Rosinei will finally be confirmed as an Internacional player tomorrow. The 25 year old arrived in Porto Alegre this morning where he will finalise his contract. Rosinei will join Inter from Real Murcia on a one year loan.

He will be presented by the club after completing a medical examination which is expected to take place later today. He will not be available for selection however until August.

Rosinei was part of Corinthians’ Brasileirão winning side in 2005. Prior to his spell at the Estádio Pacaembu, he played for Cruzeiro, São Caetano. His current club is Real Murcia in Spain's second division.

Sorondo injury blow gives Danny Morais fresh opportunity

Centre back, Gonazalo Sorondo has given Tite defensive worries as medical examinations concluded yesterday that the Uruguayan is suffering from a muscular injury to his right thigh. Sorondo complained of soreness after Wednesday’s victory of Goiás.

Club doctor Luciano Ramirez confirmed that the player would be unavailable for between two to three weeks. Sorondo was visibly disappointed with his latest injury set back and refused to talk to press at he left the Beira-Rio.

Tite is likely to field young centre back Danny Morais as Sorondo’s replacement for the new few games starting with Sunday’s game in Curitiba against Atlético-PR.

Danny Morais will be keen to impress in this latest opportunity as he has little first team experience and was rarely used by previous coach, Abel Braga. Danny Morais was close to leaving Inter earlier this month but the club rejected an offer from French club, Monaco.

“I continue in trying to improve and the team is now in a better position then the last time I played. I am waiting for my chance.”, he told the press.

Juniors comeback to win State title

Earlier today, Inter's junior team won the Campeonato Gaucho after coming back from a 2-0 defeat in the first leg to beat Cruzeiro POA 3-0 (3-2 agg) in the Beira-Rio.

Inter went in at halftime 2-0 up after a goals from Talles Cunha and promising striker, Walter. The winning goal came in a drama packed 4 minutes. First, Inter were awared a penalty which goalkeeper Agenor stepped up and scored. The refeere then ordered a re-take which the Cruzeiro goalkeeper Fábio saved. Then, as Cruzeiro immediately broke away Inter won possession and countered with Guto passing for Walter to score the third goal for the Colorado.

Inter, led by coach Osmar Loss lifted the junior state championship for the first time in six years.
"To score two goals in the final is sensational. I've worked hard and whenever the Osmar (Loss coach of the juniores) called upon me, I tried to do as much as I can.", declared Walter. Now involved with full Internacional squad he added, "It's a huge joy to work with stars that I once saw on the television and I am available if Tite needs me"

Juniors State Championship to be decided

The second leg of the final of the Juniors State Championship (Campeonato Gaúcho de Juniores) kicks off later today as Inter look to turn around a 2-0 deficit against Cruzeiro POA in the Beira Rio this afternoon.

Cruzeiro from the northern zone of Porto Alegre successfully beat Inter’s Juniors 2-0 last Sunday and Inter will now need to score three goals or twice to take the tie into penalties.
Internacional have not won the competition since 2002 whilst Cruzeiro are on course for their first title since the competition began in 1980.

Inter are expected to field the likes of Walter, Guto and Tales who have all broken into Inter’s full squad and considered by the club to have exciting prospects.

A few people have asked why wasn't this game played last night before the Goias game? It would of seemed like a good idea. If you know why, please let me know!

Guiñazu suspended for Atlético PR

Guiñazu’s yellow card last night will now mean he will be suspended for Sunday’s trip to Atlético PR. The Argentine was substituted for Adriano who went on to score for Inter. The striker is now expected to start instead of him as Tite indicated that he will play with a central midfield pairing of Edinho and Magrão with Alex and Taison playing either side. This would then allow Adriano to partner fellow striker Nilmar.

Central defender Sorondo also complained of pains in his right like but his likely to be available.

Tite saitisfied as Inter keep winning

Tite spoke to press following last nights game and praised his side for achieving another win in the Campeonato Brasileiro over a Goiás side who were difficult to break down. Tite was required to make changes to the team at half time as Inter struggled to create.

“The opposition played 3-6-1 and they were very good at marking and a physical side. They have been the best defensive team since I have been here”, he explained. “We had difficulty in getting forward therefore I brought on Adriano to open up their defence and to try and get behind their fullbacks”, Tite added.

With Guiñazu collecting another yellow card, the Argentine now faces suspension and will be unavailable for Sunday’s trip to Atlético PR. “ I will go to sleep tonight already thinking about the game against Atlético. I want to reflect and maybe replace him with a more defensive player. We used Maycon today but we do not have a left footed player to replace him. Ramon is more of attacking player.” he pondered.

Asked about achieving Inter’s first win away from Beira-Rio in the Brasileirão Tite explained, “In each passing game, each player plays well so confidence grows and I can demand more. I was satisfied with the chances we created in the defeat away to Vitória and I felt we didn’t deserve to lose.”

10ª Rodada round up

Inter move up four places in the Brasilierao and are now occupy 7th position following last nights victory. Their position could change later today with other clubs still to play. Inter now are three points of the top four.

5. Palmeiras P9 Pts 17

Adriano rescues Inter against defensive Goiás

Adriano came off to bench to secure Inter three points last night against a defensive Goiás side. Former Coloardo’s Iarley and Adriano Gabiru lined up for the away team as Inter continued their impressive record at the Beira-Rio.

Inter faced a different challenge to the vulnerable looking Coritiba side Inter played on Sunday. Goiás took to the field in a 3-6-1 formation and were defensively well organized. Former players Adriano Gabiru and Iarley in particular got warm welcomes from the Inter fans who would find themselves frustrated for much of the evening as Goias gagged Inter in an uneventful first half. Julio Cesar had the best chance for Goias hitting the side netting as Inter failed to create.

Tite replaced Guiñazu with Adriano at half time as Inter re-shaped playing a standard 4-4-2 formation. The tactical decision paid off almost immediately as Nilmar used his pace to pressure a back tracking Goiás defender to win possession from the edge of the box. Nilmar then squared the ball across goal for Adriano (48) to give Inter the lead. Taison then came close to doubling Inter’s lead as his 25 yard shot was saved by the legs of Goias goalkeeper, Harlei. The ball then fell to Adriano who narrowly missed from 10 yards out. Nilmar then had arguably the best chance of the half. Alex played a long ball through the middle to which Nilmar burst through with the ball but could only manage to put the ball the wrong side of the post.

Whilst Inter failed to play with the spark and creativity they displayed against Coritiba, Tite will be pleased that the team was able to use a different approach to the game to overcome the resilient Goiás side.

Carvalho steps up D'Alessandro transfer plans

São Paulo businessman Deocir Sonda today met up with Inter’s technical director, Fernando Carvalho at the hotel where the Inter squad are staying ahead of tonights match.

Sonda and Carvalho are reported to have met of lunch to discuss the idea of investment which would allow the club to finance the signing of D’Alessandro. Deocir Probes has previously been a financial partner in the transfers which took the Colombian Watson Renteria and Nilmar to the Beira-Rio.

It is thought that if Inter can get the investment , the club would not be required to sell Guiñazu to finance D’Alessandro’s transfer.

Inter V Goiás

Inter will be looking to continue their recent form tonight at the Beira-Rio where they welcome 17th place Goiás (19:30 local time).

Inter currently 11 points from 11 games and a win tonight could see them move up 5th in the table. Magrão is expected to return to the side following injury in place of Maycon, whilst Renan completes his suspension with Clemer continuing to captain the side in goal.

“We have to the standard that we have recently shown”, demanded Tite. “In the Gre-Nal we played well but did not get the result we deserved. Then against Coritiba, we played well and were successful. We need to continue so we can grow in confidence”, he added.

“It is a long championship and we must establish goals throughout the competition. Clearly the final objective is to be top, but at this moment, we want to be in the top ten. The players react very well to these methods”, explained Tite.

Goiás are expected to field a defensive formation which will see the return to the Beira-Rio of Iarley who is expected to play as a lone striker. Goiás won their last match on Sunday against Fluminense 1-0, but in their last match away from home, they were comfortably beaten by Vitória losing 3-0 in Salvador.

Inter confirms loan of Gil to Botafogo

Internacional have confirmed the loan agreement with Botafogo for striker Gil. The 28 year old joined Inter in 2007, but has failed to hold down a regular place in the side and has largely been used as a substitute. Gil has started just one game in the Brasileirão this year.

Reports earlier this week had linked Botafogo right back Túlio Souza with a move to Inter as part of the deal but Gil will join now join Fogão on loan until the end of the year. Gil is expected to sign today and providing documents can be cleared, he will make his debut for his new club against Santos on Sunday. Inter confirmed the agreement yesterday as the club allowed the player to travel to Rio de Janeiro to complete paperwork.

Gil rose to prominence with Corinthians where he won the São Paulo State Championship (Paulistão) twice and the Copa do Brasil but left the Estádio do Pacaembu in 2005 to join Tokyo Verdy in Japan. Gil failed to settle in Japan and joined Inter in August 2007 after a short spells with Cruzeiro and Spanish club Gimnàstic.

Former São Paulo player linked with move Inter

Brazilian website futebolinterior.com.br reports that former São Paulo attacking midfielder Lenilson is the latest transfer target for Internacional. The 27 year old currently plays in Mexico for Jaguars and is thought to be looking to return to Brazil.

Lenlison joined Jaguars in 2007 after a successful time at São Paulo where he played 54 games, scoring 14 goals. Lenlison caught the attention of São Paulo when playing for Série C club Noroeste where he was voted the best player of the 2005 Campeonato Paulista.

Tite praises Flamengo’s start to the championship

As the Brasileirão enters the 10th round tonight, Tite has praised current leaders Flamengo. “Flamengo are different. The team is well organised and have been together for a year with the work of Joel Santana, now Caio Júnior is continuing the sequence with the same group but they can be reached”, explained Tite.

With 22 points, the Caricoa Rubro-Negro (Rio red and black) have already opened a five point gap on Cruzeiro, Grêmio and Vitória who are all joint second in the table. Meanwhile Inter are on 11 points and occupy 11th position which they share with Vasco, Botafogo, Sport Recife and Atlético MG.

But, as the Campeonato Brasileiro is just beginning so is the work of Tite who takes charge of his fifth game as Inter’s coach tonight. Tite fully expects Inter to develop into a top of the table side. “Our team has started to evolve. If we play well and obtain the right result it generates confidence. From there we can stabilize the level of performance and progress,” analyzed Tite.

Inter juniors suffer first leg defeat in final.

Apologies for the delay in confirming this result but the club's Junior side have lost in the first leg of the state final to Cruzeiro of Porto Alegre.

The Juniors were defeated on Monday at the Estrelão stadium by 2-0 and they will now have to score at least twice now at the Beira-Rio for the second leg on Thursday afternoon.

Inter want US$ 5 million for Guiñazu to sign D' Alessandro / Inter quer US$ 5 milhões por Guiñazu para contratar D'Alessandro

Today’s edition of Zero Hora today claims that Inter are demanding a US$ 5 million transfer fee from Al Jazira for Guiñazu. Al Jazira are said to be very keen on signing the popular midfielder and are reported to of made the player a huge offer. However, according to press reports Internacional will only allow Guiña to leave for US$ 5 million.

Until Al Jazira’s interest, Inter had no intention of selling Guiñazu but the club have found it difficult to refuse any offer with the player unlikely to turn down a contract which would secure him financially.

Inter have moved quickly to identify a replacement and have targeted the Argentinian D’Alessandro. As reported yesterday though, the deal could be hindered by D’Alessandro’s high transfer fee which is “out of the budget of any Brazilian club”. Inter are now refusing to accept less than US$ 5 mill for Guiñazu in order to finance any possible deal for D'Alessandro.

Iarley and Mossoró return to the Beira-Rio

As Goiás arrived in Porto Alegre late last night, much of the media attention focused on the return of former Inter player Iarly who was sold to Goiás earlier this season. Iarley will be fondly remembered by Coloardo’s as he featured in the title winning Inter teams of 2006 and 2007.
When asked about the possibility of him celebrating if he scored against his former club, Iarley responded, “I am now a Goiás player and the team pay my salary to I am going to have to celebrate a goal. But I do not know what my reaction will be at that precise moment. I am relaxed with regards to that, but my function is to score goals.”

Meanwhile, another familiar face at the Beira-Rio also returned yesterday as striker Mossoró returned after completing a loan spell in Portugal with Marítimo. Mossoró will not be available for selection as Giovanni Luigi negotiates his transfer back to Europe. Reports last week suggested that the 25 year old would be signing for nearby rivals Juventude but now Europe seems to be his likely destination with the club receiving offers from Braga in Portugal and an unnamed club in Turkey.

Rosinei signing to be confirmed within days

The announcement of the signing of midfielder Rosinei is being delayed by paperwork Giovanni Luigi explained yesterday afternoon. Despite the club confirming negotiations, the signing is not expected to be announced for another two days as documents with his current club Real Murcia wait to be cleared.

Renan confirmed in Olympic Squad

Goalkeeper Renan has been confirmed in the Brazil squad for the Beijing Olympic Games which begin in August. Dunga announced the squad yesterday and Renan is the only players based in Rio Grande do Sul to be called up.

The announcement is not seen as a surprise as the goalkeeper played in a Olympic squad friendly last month in Rio de Janeiro.

Inter fans remember Jefferson and Gabriel

Following the deaths of two Internacional fans, Jeferson Alves Ferreira and Gabriel Eloi de Oliveira, Inter supporters marked the game against Coritiba, the first at the Beira-Rio since the incident, by displaying anti-violence messages and a black cloth between two tiers of the stand in protest of the acts of violence which cost the two fans their lives.

The two supporters were shot on the night before the Gre-Nal after a fight broke out between Inter and Grêmio fans in the nearby city of São Leopoldo.

Transfer round up

After another busy weekend, media speculation continues linking players with both moves to and from the Beira-Rio.

Club president Vitório Píffero has told Bandeirantes radio today that there is little chance of Argentine midfielder D’Alessandro joining the club. “It is almost impossible to sign this player, who is perhaps one of the best in South America. His value surpasses the budget of any Brazilian club”, he revealed.

Meanwhile, stories have been circulating linking striker Gil away from the club. Botafogo are being heavily linked with the striker with a move to the Rio de Janierio club. Although, as initially reported, Botafogo right back Túlio Souza will not be moving the opposite way as part of the deal as Vitório Píffero once again explained, “We have no interest in this player and this deal does not exist.” Despite Píffero’s claims Botafogo are still thought to be very interested in signing the striker. Gil has fallen out of favour at Inter as Tite experiments with a new formation and he also faces competition from Adriano and youth strikers Walter and Guto to get back into the team.

Another Inter player already being said to be attracting attention is young midfielder Taison. Following the departure of several players in recent weeks Radio Gaucho spoke Inter’s technical director, Fernando Carvalho who ruled out any transfer. “I can confirm Taison will not be sold this season”, he declared. Carvalho then requested patience from the Inter supporters as the club look to rebuild, “I am a person who is a Colorado supporter. We want appreciation for what we’ve achieved in the last six years. We will always try to improve the squad. I remember that in 2006 we sold four players and many said that Internacional were in disarray, we ended up being champions of the world! We are trying to negotiate with players when the transfer window in Europe opens and if we are successful then we some quality signings will disembark in the Beira-Rio.”

Finally, Tite is set to make an addition to his coaching team this afternoon with the arrival of a new fitness coach. Fábio Mahseredjian will join Inter from Fluminense after a year with the Rio club. Tite has worked previously with Mashserediian when coaching in the U.A.E.

Taison draws comparisons to Pato

Inter midfielder Edinho praised Taison’s performance after the game with Coritiba. The 20 year old has been a key player in Inters recent performances with his impressive pace and dribbling concerning defenders. Following the game Taison thanked the supporters and the Colorado’s will be hoping his form continues. “The fans always support me, it is exciting. I thank god but I have a lot a lot do”, he commented.

Team mate Edinho excitedly told press, “We are always going to support him and help him to show what he can do. He has no fear. He reminds me a lot of Alexandre Pato in that aspect.”

Tite happy with consistency

Tite spoke to press last night following the game and told them he was pleased with what he’d seen, “The performance was very consistent. We created opportunities, limited the opposition and had possession to control the game which leaves me happy”. “It is the beginning of a promising career and the fruit of the work of the youth set up”, commented Tite when asked about Taison.

“The great challenge of the coach is to identify where the plays best and how it suits the team best. I watched Alex in training and I thought it is there he likes to play. Taison likes to play deeper in midfield so we will continue like this.” explained Tite when discussing Alex’s new role in the side. “We can celebrate a little now but we already have to think about Goiás, our objective is finish in the top four places”, the coach added. “

9ª Rodada round up

Internacional finish the 9th round of the Brasileirão moving up three places in the table to 11th place. Despite the impressive victory, Inter are 6 points away from the all important top four Copa Libertadores places. The Colorado however, have a chance to shorten this gap on Wednesday as the 10th round of the Campeonato is held mid-week. Inter will again play at the Beira-Rio where they welcome Goiás who yesterday beat struggling Fluminense 1-0.

Superb Alex inspires Inter to 3-0 win

Alex scored an outstanding hatrick this evening as a polished Inter performance saw them comfortably defeat Coritiba at the Beira-Rio.

Tite's side saw two changes from last week with Clemer captaining the side as he replaced Renan and Magrao missed out through in injury and was replaced by Maycon in midfield. Tite would've been delighted however as Alex and Taison continued their fine form following the Gre-Nal and tormented a poor looking Coritiba side.

Inter started brightly with Alex and Nilmar both going close to giving Inter the lead but the opening goal came from Alex (29). The classy midfielder burst down the left past the hapless Coritiba defender, Alê and followed up with an impressive finish as the ball flew into the net from a tight angle. Inter continued to torment Coritiba despite being only having a goal lead as number 7, Taison constantly caused the visitors' problems with his pace and trickery. Coritiba had they best chance of the half shortly before the break as Clemer was forced into making a double save from striker Keirrison.

Inter began the second half and continued to control the game. Alex again, showed his eye for goal, this time sending a free kick wide of the goal from 20 yards out. Moments later, he sent another shot from the edge of the box fizz across the goal and past the post but his second goal was to come when Nilmar was awarded a penalty after being bundled over in the box when chasing a long ball. Alex (69) stepped up and calmly slotted the penalty to the goalkeepers left to give double Inter's lead. However, Alex's best was yet to come as he crowned his hattrick in remarkable style. Within three touches of the ball Alex (74) gained possession from 30 yards out and rifled a spectacular shot into the top hand corner of the goal to send the watching Colorado's crazy. With the result not in question, Coritiba created little to threaten Inter's goal but found Clemer resilient whenever they did manage to shot.

Tite to unleash Taison and Alex on Coritiba

Tite will be hoping that Taison can show a repeat of the performance he displayed in the Gre-Nal later today (16:10 local time) when Coritiba visit the Beira-Rio. Observers from training this week claim that Taison is likely to moved to the right of midfield whilst Alex will feature on the left. Both have been instructed to attack and support Nilmar.

Despite the change in shape, Inter are expected to field the same team which started against Grêmio except for Clemer who will replace Renan in goal. Ricardo Lopes, Índio, Sorondo. Marcão will complete the defence. Captain Edinho will sit in front of the back four with Magrão and Guiñazu to play in centre midfield. Taison and Alex are expected to be given attacking roles playing behind pacey striker Nilmar.

Strikers Adriano and Gil are again expected to miss out and are likely to be named on the bench whilst new signing Ângelo could also be named as a substitute.

Inter target D'Alessandro

Radio Gaucho is reporting that Inter are in negotiations with the exciting Argentine midfielder D’Alessandro currently of San Lorenzo. According to a representative of the player, it is claimed that D’Alessandro is Inter’s priority target as the club look strengthen the squad.

D’Alessandro’s transfer would be a complex deal with Spanish club, Real Zaragoza and River Plate both sharing the players registration whilst he plays for the Buenos Aries based club, San Lorenzo. It is thought that a deal could be agreed if Inter are prepared to share the ownership of players in the ‘categorias de base’ (youth set up) with highly rated midfielder Tales being mentioned as part of the deal.

The 27 year old attacking midfielder would be a huge boost to Inter’s squad following the departure of several experienced players. D’Alessandro has previously played in Europe and had successful spells in Germany with Wolfsburg and Portsmouth in England.
Meanwhile, Porto Alegre's other club have confirmed that a 'popular' face among the Colorado's is departing to Qatar. Grêmio's Roger, has been sold by his parent club, Corinthians to Qatar Sports Club. The departure of Roger, who scored the penalty last weekend against Inter will be celebrated by Colorado's everywhere!!

Bolívar presented to press

Bolívar completed his medical and has now officially signed for Internacional. The defender was presented to the press at Beira-Rio yesterday afternoon although he is unavailable for selection until 2nd August.

Bolívar told the media, "I learned alot tatically in my time at Monaco. French football is alot more physical and different to what is played in Brazil. I am certainly a more mature player now."

Inter's agreement with Monaco will see the player join on loan for one year initially but Inter will then have an option to purchase Bolívar at the end of the contract.

Inter v Coritiba

With last week’s controversial Gre-Nal and the shock news of the possible departure of midfielder Pablo Guiñazu you could almost be forgiven for forgetting that Inter play again this Sunday against mid table side, Coritiba.

Inter’s performance in the Gre-Nal was a vast improvement from recent games and Tite will now be expecting three points in his second game at the Beira-Rio. With the exception of Renan who’s suspended, Tite has a full squad to choose from. Sorondo, Magrão and Taison have all recovered from knocks whilst Tite may be tempted to name promising young strikers Walter and Guto on the bench following impressive performances in the junior’s side this week.

Coritiba, currently 10th in the table haven’t won in their last six matches and are yet to win away from home. Despite the threat of their top scorer Hugo (4 goals), Inter will be expected to beat the Paraná based club.

Sidnei set to be unveiled at Recreativo

Central defender Sidnei is set to join Spanish club Recreativo within the next few days.

18 year old Sidnei is a product of Inter’s categorias de base (youth set up) and was recently sold by Inter to Gestifute, a Portuguese investment group for around €6 million.

A.C Milan and Villareal were said to have been interested in signing Sidnei but he will now join Recreativo. Recreativo de Huelva finished 16th in La Liga last season just above relegation. Sidnei’s last game for Inter saw him being sent off against Botafogo in what was Tite’s first game in charge.

Bolívar to undergo medical today

Inter are set to officially announce new signing Bolívar later today. The defender will undergo medical examinations today and should sign a one year loan contract with the club. Bolívar will then be presented to the press at the Beira-Rio this afternoon.

Despite this the Bolívar will not be available for selection until August when the Brazilian transfer window opens. Bolívar will now take this opportunity to rest as he has just completed a full season in France with Monaco.

Inter to sign new goalkeeper

In a surprise move, Inter are close to signing goalkeeper Lauro from Cruzeiro. It us understood that the 27 year old is keen to move to Inter and has already agreed terms but an agreement has not yet been reached between the two clubs. Vice president, Giovanni Luigi confirmed that the club are in negotiations for the goalkeeper but nothing has been confirmed.

With Inter having already lost several experienced players and the possible departure of Guiñazu, the addition of a new goalkeeper was not expected although he is not expected to replace Renan permanently. Giovanni Luigi explained, “Since Renan had hepatitis we began to look for a new goalkeeper. Renan will also go to the Olympics later this year and if Clemer has any injuries we would be left with an 18 year old replacement.”

Lauro has born in Andradina in the Sao Paulo state where he played for Ponte Preta before joining Belo Horizonte based club, Cruzeiro in 2006. Lauro has not made any appearances in the Campeonato Brasileiro as of yet.
What do you think of this signing? Do Inter really need another goalkeeper? Should Inter be concentrating on signing players to replace Fernandao, Iarley, Guina? Let me know your opinions!

Semi-final opportunity for Juniors to secure Inter future

Later today, Internacional’s Juniors play in Gauchão semi-final against Juventude at the Beira-Rio. The first leg saw Inter win 2-1. The semi-final will give those in attendance (over a 1000 are expected today) a glimpse of the future as they watch the latest products of Inter’s famous youth system. Some of these will go onto play for Inter and some may even go on and play for top European clubs.

Some of these names have already been promoted to professional squad. Goalkeeper Agenor, the fullback Titi and the attackers Guto and Walter are already tipped to have big futures. Perhaps the biggest talent though is the 16 year old forward Zezinho.

Here’s a run through of the Inter Juniors team for today-

1) Agenor - 18 years. Had a chance in the professional squad when Renan and Muriel had hepatitis and made his debut against the Ulbra in the Campeonato Gauchão after Clemer injured himself in training. He is the third goalkeeper of the first team.

2) Daniel - 18 years. Has been at Inter since 11 years old. It is his first year in the juniors.

3) Pessanha - 20 years. He played against Inter-SM in the Campeonato Gauchão and came on as a substitute in the second leg against the Sport Recife in the Copa do Brasil.

4) Titi - 20 years. Appeared for the first time in 2007. He went back to the junior squad and was called up again to the first team by Abel Bragal in 2008.

6) Carmona - 20 years. Played in the Campeonato Gauchão against San José.

5) Sandro - 19 years. Was highly praised when he played against the Inter-SM in the Campeonato Gauchão.

8) Paulinho - 19 years. Midfielder with good technique and was part of the campaign of the Brazilian Under 20 squad.

7) Wagner - 19 years. Has been at Inter for four years.

10) Tales - 18 years. A close friend of Alexandre Pate, he is very fast and has a lot promise.

9) Guto - 20 years. Rescued Inter from defeat when he equalized in the 1-1 against the São Luiz.

11) Walter - 18 years. The clubs vice president Giovanni Luigi described the powerful striker as a mixture of Claudiomiro with Romário. High praise indeed!

Please check back for further news of this afternoon’s semi-final with Juventude. Also, there will be a special feature about the Inter youth team- ‘Categorias de Base’ coming very soon!

If you are going to this afternoons game or have any views on any of the players mentioned, please let me know!

Piffero confirmations negotiations with Rosinei and Bolívar

Yesterday afternoon president Vitório Piffero confirmed that negotiations with Rosinei are now at an advanced stage. The midfielder who joined his current club, Real Murica from Corinthians is now very close to concluding a deal with one year loan with Internacional. "There is a document between the player and club which is missing but we have a verbal agreement", confirmed Piffero.

Meanwhile, Bolívar's one year loan to the club has been confirmed on the official site of his current club Monaco. Despite this there has not been any confirmation from Internacional.

Do you think Rosinei will be a good signing for Inter? Where do you think he'll play in the team?

Fernando Carvalho: "Inter will bring players of quality"

Inter’s technical director Fernando Carvalho has defended the club following criticism over the club's recent transfer dealings. He made clear that all contract and transfer dealings are handled by club president Vitório Píffero and vice president Giovanni Luigi. However, Carvalho is confident that quality players will arrive at the club to replace the loss of Iarley, Fernandão, Sidnei and now possibly Guiñazu.

“The matter should be put to the president, Piferro or with Giovanni. I am not in Porto Alegre and I am not answering those questions at the moment. It is very difficult to bring in a player the qualities that Fernandão had when he left here, but is not difficult bring someone like the Fernandão when he arrived. The supporters must stay calm and the club is planning to hire players of quality. Internacional are going to work hard to build a quality team for the coach and, to achieve the objective which is at least a vacancy in the Copa Libertadores", declared Carvalho.

Ediglê returns to Inter

Centre back Ediglê has returned to Internacional following a loan spell with Portuguese club Marítimo. It is unknown whether the 30 year old will feature in the Inter squad as the club already have a number of centre backs. Gonzalo Sorondo, Indio, Marcao, Danny Morais and Orozco are all available for selection and the arrival of Bolívar will mean Tite will have another centre back.

Orozco's future at Internacional is undecided and after a recent run of poor performances the Colombian is thought to be available for transfer. It now remains to be seen if Ediglê will be used by Tite or will be allowed to leave.
*Reports now confirm that Danny Morais will join Monaco. Danny extended contract earlier this week until 2013. It appears that this is a loan deal which is part of the agreement which will see Bolívar coming the opposite way joining Inter.

Guiñazu and Inter in for cash windfall

Zero Hora today examines the value of Guiñazu move to the U.A.E and how it profit both the player and Inter.

The proposed transfer of Guiñazu would be worth US$10 million to the club whilst the player would receive a contract worth US$200,000 a month as well as a signing on fee of US$ 3 million. Guiñazu has reportedly commented that the offer he has been made is unrefusable.

Inter captain Edinho explained,” He should go, it’s a lot of money! He has situations here but he is 30 years old and has sons. People know that in football, opportunities sometimes do not appear more than once.”

If Inter agree to the other, the club’s last three sales of Fernandão, Sidnei and Guiñazu will of made US$20 million. This is despite the fact the club profited from the sale of Alexandre Pato to Milan in 2007.

Guiñazu €4.4M - OR$ 7 million (around R$ 11 million)
Fernandão €3.5M - OR$ 5.5 million (around R$ 7 million)
Sidnei € 6M - OR$ 9 million (around R$ 14 million)
Alexandre Pato €12.6M - OR$ 20 millions (around R$ 37.5 millions)

Taison fit to play against Coritiba

Tite has told Zero Hora that Taison will be available for the game against Coritiba following a medical examination. Luciano Ramires, one of the clubs medical staff reported that Taison did not suffer any injury during the Gre-Nal where he was substituted.

Taison is now expected to train fully today and will be available to Tite for selection for Sundays game with Coritiba.

Supporters furious as Al Jazira make offer for Guiñazu

Following yesterdays claims that Inter have received an offer for Guiñazu, Inter fans have reacted furiously to the news as another important player could be set to leave Beira-Rio. In recent weeks Inter have already allowed Iarley (Goiás), Fernandão (Al Gharafa) and Sidnei, bought by the Portuguese investment group Gestifute. Now the departure of another key player would create another gap in the shrinking squad.

Inter have been looking to add new signings with several names mentioned and it's thought the club are looking to make three new signings. However so far, the only significant signing is the forthcoming arrival of former defender Bolívar on a one year loan. Right back Ângelo from Paraná Club has also joined the club but it's likely he will be second choice after Ricardo Lopes. With the club now on a sound financial footing, there is no apparent need to sell further players but if Al Jazira offer Guiñazu a huge contract then the club may not be able to keep hold of the player despite their wishes. So far Guiña has refused to add to the speculation regarding his future although he has acknowledged that there is an offer for him.

Meanwhile yesterday afternoon former Inter coach and manager of Al Jazira spoke to media as he visited São Paulo. He told them that he did not suggest Guiñazu to the club as a possible signing. The proposal of the U.A.E club would be of U$S 20 million (about R$ 12 million) to take the midfielder as well as a significant contract for the player. Inter vice-president Giovanni Luigi denied these values claiming, “I can guarantee that these numbers had been never said.”

What should Inter do? If Guiña leaves who could replace him? Let me know all your comments and views!

Al Jazira make offer for Guiñazu

Inter’s Argentine midfielder Pablo Guiñazu is the latest name to be linked with a move away from Beira-Rio. Reports suggest that Guiñazu has received a substantial offer from Al Jazira of the U.A.E. The proposal would see the 29 year old join Al Jazira in August and would reunite him with former Inter coach Abel Braga.

“I am thinking about the squad and the game on Sunday. My thoughts depend on the direction of my career and the thoughts of my family, now we have to wait and see.”, said Guiñazu.

Meanwhile Inter’s vice president Giovanni Luigi has said the club do not intend to sell the player. “We are denying the possibility. It is a proposal of the highest value but Internacional does not want to do business. The club is financially stable. The proposal would make the player financially independent, but we must deal with this internally”, he declared.

Guiñazu joined Inter in 2004 from Paraguayan club Libertad where he has since become a key player for the club. His possible departure will do nothing to help the clubs chances of qualifying for the Copa Libertadores this year and will increase the need for Inter to bring in reinforcements.

What do you think of this latest story? Would Inter be right to sell? Let me know what you think!

Renan pleads innocence following red card

Goalkeeper Renan spoke to the media yesterday afternoon and after admitting he had difficultly sleeping following his controversial red card he explained, “My intention was to protect myself as I went to catch the high ball and Rodrigo Mendes was coming in. It is the first thing people learn in the youth teams to gain balance and it is for interpretation of the referee. People who know me know I am not a controversial player. I only used the technique to come out from goal.”

Reflecting on the game Renan commented, “What is certain for me is that Inter played well in the Gre-Nal, my performance was also good. I am certain that we would have gone on to win the game if it wasn’t for the penalty."

The full length of Renan's suspension is to be confirmed later this week but he is definatley ruled out against Coritiba with Clemer set to replace him.

Ângelo finally cleared to play

24 year old Ângelo has received clearance from the C.B.F to play. The right back joined Inter last month after impressing in his performances for Paraná Club in the Copa do Brasil and he is now available to Tite for selection.

His clearance was initially held up as he has also represented another club, Adap/Galo within the same year. It is thought Ângelo could make his Inter debut this Sunday at the Beira-Rio against Coritiba.
