New Inter kit to be officially unveiled Wednesday

Next week the new Internacional kit which will be used through the club’s centenary year will be officially unveiled.

The release of the new kit which is manufactured once again by Reebok, has been a major talking point with the club being expected to move the stars and crown from the badge. The stars and crown represent the club’s most important titles in the Brasileirão, Copa Libertadores, World Club Cup and the Recopa. Many supporters however argue that the stars and the crown detract from the actual club emblem itself and want them to be removed.

It is expected that the newly designed badge will feature just the original logo along with the words S.C Internacional 1909 around it. The idea of having the club’s name around the logo follows a trend which is popular in Europe and has also been used other Brazilian teams such as Cruzeiro and Vasco.

The new kit will be presented at 8pm Wednesday night at the club’s Inter Sport store in the Beira-Rio. It is expected that the team will first wear the new shirt three days later in the Gre-Nal which is being held outside of Porto Alegre, in Erechim.

Mineiro joins Juventude / Brasil give up on Chiquinho

Inter reserve midfielder Mineiro was yesterday confirmed as Juventude’s seventh new addition of the season as the 27 year old completes a loan deal with the Gaúcho club.

Mineiro moves to the Estádio Alfredo Jaconi on a year’s loan and will return to Inter following Juventudes Série B campaign.

Mineiro who is contract to Inter until 2011, played on loan with Japanese club Gamba Osaka last year.

Meanwhile, Brasil de Pelotas have cooled their interest in out of favour full back Chiquinho.

Speaking to Radio Gaucho, club president Helder Lopes confirmed that Brasil no longer intend to sign the player.

“This if the official word, It seems that he has other proposal”, he confirmed.

Chiquinho had previously stated his interest in joining the Caxias based club following the recent tragedy where two players and a member of the coaching staff died after the team bus was involved in an accident last month.

Índio and Guiñazu resume to full training

Central defender Índio and midfielder Pablo Guiñazu participated in full training yesterday afternoon and are expected to be available for selection for Sunday’s match against Sapucaiense.

Índio is yet to play this season whilst Guiñazu has been unavailable following an ankle injury.

Nilmar was absent from the training session however as the striker underwent a light physical session after complaining of muscular pains. He is not thought to be a doubt for the weekend.

Inter UK news round up

Clemer extends contract

Historic goalkeeper Clemer has signed a new contract with Inter which will run until December. Clemer, 40 has made more than 300 appearances for the Colorado and played a key role during the club’s achievements in recent years.

Having missed pre-season through an ankle injury, Clemer is expected to resume training within the next two weeks but the experienced ‘keeper will face stiff competition from Lauro and Michel Alves for his place in Tite’s side.

Alex calm as transfer window closes

Hotly tipped by many to be one of the first names to leave Inter at the end of last season, Alex remains calm about his future at the Beira-Rio as the January transfer window draws to a close with Inter yet to receive any offers for the Seleção attacking midfielder.

“I have another five, six years at the highest level. My time is passing to play in the Champions League with a great club in Europe but I am not frustrated. I am more concerned about Inter and my future. I want a maximum of six to seven years”, confirmed Alex who turns 26 in March.

Meanwhile, Tite will have Alex and his Argentine team mate D’Alessandro available for selection for next Sunday’s match with Sapucaiense. The pair missed yesterday’s match against São Luiz after receiving red cards against São Jose last weekend.

Seleção U20's fall to defeat against Uruguay

Walter was the only Internacional player to feature in Brazil’s latest game in the South American U20 Championship in Veneuzuala as Brazil fell to Uruguay 3-2.

From
Goal.com:

Uruguay picked up their fourth consecutive victory of the tournament, in a nail-biting 3-2 victory over Brazil on Wednesday.

The Uruguayans won the match with goals from Maximiliano Cordoba (22'), and Abel Hernandez (68', 84'). While Douglas Costa (33') and Alan Kardec (64') scored for Brazil.

With the win Uruguay finished top of Group B, with a maximum of twelve points. They were followed by Paraguay, and Brazil (both with 7 points) into the hexagonal round of the competition.

Uruguay commenced the match the stronger of the two sides, and they took a well-deserved lead in the 22nd minute when Maximiliano Cordoba beat Rafael with a powerful left-footed effort.

But Brazil hit back in the 33rd minute when exciting Gremio attacking midfielder Douglas Costa scored with an extraordinary individual effort.

Early in the second half both teams had their chances to score, but after a period of intense pressure, Alan Kardec put Brazil ahead for the first time with a well placed header in the 64th minute.

However, four minutes later new Palermo acquisition Abel Hernandez drew Uruguay level when he blasted the ball home from long-range.

Towards the end of the match the Uruguayans were clearly on top, and after a number of close calls, Hernandez finally snatched them the three points six minutes from full-time with a clinical finish after a speedy run.

They almost added their fourth in the final minute of the match, when a goal bound effort struck the right post.

Once again Uruguay proved that they are the team to beat in the competition, after a memorable victory over their fierce rivals.

In the earlier game, Paraguay came from behind to defeat Chile 2-1 with two second half goals. The win saw Paraguay advance to the final round at the expense of the Chileans.

Colorado see off São Luiz in Gauchão third round

Internacional collected their second away win of the week last night as Andrezinho’s first half strike secured the Colorado all three points at the Estádio 19 de Outubro, Ijuí. The result ensures that Inter remain undefeated after three matches in the 2009 Campeonato Gaúcho.

Without four first choice players, Tite was forced to reshuffle the Colorado midfielder and hand Andrezinho and Taison their first starts of the season. Maycon and Magrão continued a defensive midfield pair with Rosinei and Andrezinho playing in front. Tite opted for a pacey attacking front line of Taison and Nilmar.

Undefeated from their two previous outings in the Gauchão, São Luiz began the match adopting a direct approach to the game as the home side looked to attack down the right, to put as many crosses into the box as possible. São Luiz created the first chance of the game on 12 minutes when Barão crossed for Xaro who saw his effort cleared by the Inter defence. Minutes later São Luiz threatened as Capixaba’s cross ran across the goal mouth. With Inter beginning to find themselves on the back foot, the Colorado began to assert more pressure on São Luiz but the home side remained firm, breaking down Inter’s play, attempting to counter attack at each opportunity. On 22 minutes, Inter finally began to show signs of their superiority. Marcão’s cross was headed out by São Luiz defence only for Magrão to shoot wide past the left post of goalkeeper Oliveira. Two minutes later Inter threatened again as Taison did well to play the ball through to Nilmar who was brought down on the edge of the penalty area. Andrezinho (25) stepped up to take the resulting freekick and sent his shot swerved to the left of the São Luiz goalkeeper to put Inter ahead to mark his first appearance of the season with a goal. Having taken confidence from the goal, Inter upped the tempo and looking increasingly likely to add a second goal. São Luiz however, remained defiant and Lauro was forced to save from Capixaba after he dribbled past Marcão to shoot at goal.

At half time São Luiz coach Itamar Schulle reshuffled his side bringing on Geraldo in an attempt to breakdown Inter’s attacks. Despite this, Inter began the second half strongly and on 52 minutes, Rosinei shot wide following Andrezinho’s pass. Shortly after, Inter again pushed for the second goal. Marcão played a one-two with Taison only to shot wide. São Luiz then created a chance of their own moments later with Maurício going close. With half an hour remaining, São Luis changed their side again bringing on striker Gabriel for central defender Nem which allowed the home side to get back into the game. With Inter ahead, the Colorado defended looking to break fast and exploit the pace of their attacking duo Taison and Nilmar. On 70 mins, Andrezinho did well to release Taison on the left, whose shot was tipped away from goalkeeper Oliveira. Three minutes later, Taison was again involved as Inter pushed forward. This time he played a through ball for Nilmar who dribbled his marked shot at Oliveira. Shortly afterwards, Inter came close again with Danny Morais and Marcão threatening the São Luiz goal in quick session. With less than ten minutes left on the clock, São Luiz came close to leveling the scoreline. Danny Morais failed to head the ball away and Marcão chested the ball just past his own goal. On 82 minutes, Tite made his first changes of the game bringing on young attacking midfielder Talles Cunha on for Nilmar and left back Marcelo Cordeiro on for Marcão in a straight swap. The changes provided Inter with more shape but the Colorado were unable to create any further opportunities.

São Luiz v Inter

Inter travel to the city of Ijuí for this evening’s their third fixture of the 2009 Gauchão as they look to pick up their second away victory in four days against São Luiz (22:00 local time).

Whilst the cameras and media gathered at the Beira-Rio last night for the official unveiling of the double signing of Alecsandro and Kléber, Tite’s attention will lie over his team selection for tonight, with the Colorado in somewhat of midfield crisis after just two games.

Controversial refereeing decisions last Sunday against São Jose, saw both Alex and D’Alessandro receive red cards whilst fellow midfielders Guiñazu and Paulinho are expected to miss out through injury along with defender Índio who is yet to reach full fitness.

Taison who’s second half substitute appearance inspired Inter against the Zequinha is expected to handed a start against São Luiz in an advanced role supporting Nilmar, as does Andrezinho who is expected to play in midfield.

Rosinei who received some criticism for his performance against São Jose is expected to keep his place in the side although he could find competition from young attacking midfielder Marinho who is expected to start from the bench.

Despite being fit, new signing Kléber will not be involved tonight and is likely to make his Internacional debut next Sunday at the Beira-Rio against Sapucaiense. Fellow new signing Alecsandro has not played since December and requires additional fitness work.

Meanwhile, Alecsandro’s new strike partner Nilmar remains eager to opening in goalscoring account tonight alongside new attacking partner Taison after failing to find the net in his first two games as he explained to Radio Bandeirantes.

“They defend strong. The opposition plays deep with leaving any space, they know the characteristics of our team. We must respect our opponents but go in front”, explained Nilmar. "Taison came on and did very well, he is a fast player and I have already played with him a few times. He looks to get forward, we will need to use our pace", added the striker.

São Luiz who are coached by Itamar Schulle have started their Gauchao campaign with two draws in Group B, having tied with Esportivio and Novo Hamburgo so remain undefeated.

Probable Line Up: Lauro, Bolívar (c), Danny Morais, Álvaro, Marcão, Maycon, Magrão, Rosinei, Andrezinho, Taison, Nilmar

Alecsandro and Kléber unveiled at Beira-Rio

Giovanni Luigi presented Inter’s two most significant new signings of 2009 so far last night, as left back Kléber and striker Alecsandro were unveiled to the media at the Beira-Rio.

Alecsandro, 27, arrives at Internacional after a spell in the U.A.E with Al-Wahda for a free of US$1.5 million (R$3.5 million). He arrived at the U.A.E after playing for Vitória, Sport, Ponte Preta and a successful spell with Cruzeiro which led to him moving to Portuguese club, Sporting Lisbon.

“That is the face that will be making the passes to me for my goals”, said Alecsandro complimenting his new teammate Kléber. “It is the happiest day of my life. Now I join this great squad I to fight for my place. I am a centre forward who likes to play in the area. I want to score many goals”, added Alecsandro.

Kléber who played in the Brasileirão for Santos last year was voted one of the three best left backs in the championship. Recently Kléber established has himself as Dunga’s first choice left back and also signs a three year deal with the Colorado.

“It’s very good that I have found a group who are ready to win. We have everything in place to have a good season and to fight for titles. I want to adapt myself to the style of the team”, Kléber explained.

Both players will be unavailable for tonights match with Sao Luiz.

GloboEsporte Blog do Torcedor latest

I return again today on Mateus Reck’s Blog do Torcedor on GloboEsportes with my weekly article in Portuguese.

This week I look at the start of Inter’s Gauchão campaign and reflect on what has been a successful time for the categorias de base.

Andrezinho ready for São Luiz

Andrezinho is expected to be handed a key role as Tite prepares for tomorrow’s game with São Luiz in Ijuí.

With just two games played this season, injuries and suspensions are already forcing Tite to reshuffle his squad. D’Alessandro, Alex (both suspended), are likely to be joined on the absentee list by Paulinho, Guiñazu who continue to carry slight knocks.

Tite is expected to work with his starting eleven during training today and Andrezinho is expected to handed a key role in Inter’s depleted midfield. Taison is expected to start in a more advanced role, supporting Nilmar whilst young midfielder Marinho could also be handed his Inter debut after joining the club from Fluminense.

Kléber confirms Inter agreement

Kléber has confirmed to Zero Hora today that he has an agreement with Inter in place and the deal is expected to be confirmed shortly.

The left back who has featured as first choice for the Seleção recently was not named in Dunga’s squad for Brazil’s forthcoming match with Italy in London has asked to delay signing for the club for 24 hours however.

I’ve asked the directors for one more day before the deal is announced because there is a small possibility of me going to play outside of Brazil”, revealed the former Santos full back.

It is now thought to be highly likely that Kleber’s signing will be officially confirmed by Inter tomorrow.

Super sub Taison leads Inter to victory

Inter picked up their first win of the 2009 Campeonato Gaúcho last night as substitute Taison inspired the Colorado to victory against Porto Alegre neighbours São Jose as both teams finished with 9 men.

Ahead of the Gauchão second round, Tite opted for Rosinei ahead of Taison to replace the vacant midfield position left by injured Argentine, Guiñazu. Maycon was the second change to the team which drew 0-0 with Santa Cruz midweek, as the defensive midfielder came into the side for the injured Paulinho. Right back Bolívar was handed the captains armband in the absence of Guiñazu.

São Jose immediately started the brighter of the two teams and it took until15 minutes for Inter to threaten as Alex tested the Zequinha with three efforts with the home side’s goalkeeper Luiz Muller in good form. Inter’s next opportunity came from Marcão who passed to Nilmar only for the number nine to shoot wide. São Jose then began to threaten themelves with full back Diego Botin and striker Fabiano threatening. Lauro was also forced into action following Júnior Paulista’s effort. Inter then began to push forward and Alex created their best chance shortly before half time as his pass to D’Alessandro split the São Jose defence, only for Luiz Muller to collect the ball and D’Alessandro sprinted through.

The second half began in similar vain with neither side making any changes during the break and unable to break the deadlock. On 52 minutes, Alex saw a long range effort held well by Luiz Muller in the São Jose goal as the attacking midfielder looked to inject some much needed spark into the Inter side in to what was becoming an increasingly frustrating performance. Inter’s frustrations would then grow minutes later as Alex was harshly shown a red card after the referee judged that he collided with a São Jose player. São Jose’s advantage was to be short-lived however, as four minutes later central defender Samuel was also dismissed as he received his second yellow card of the evening after bringing down Nilmar outside the box. D’Alessandro then unfortunately struck the resulting freekick into the wall. As the Colorado continued to search for their first goal of the 2009 Gauchão, Tite used the bench, bringing on Taison to replace Rosinei in midfield on 67 minutes. Tite’s decision would pay off immediately. As play restarted Taison (68) burst through from midfield into the heart of the São Jose defence striking the ball to the left of the hapless Luiz Muller to put Inter in front. Inter’s lead was to be short lived however as Sandro Sotilli was able to hit a low cross into the Colorado penalty leaving Júnior Paulista (78) to equalize. With little time remaining São Jose searched for a shock victory and veteran striker Sotilli was denied only by the feet of Lauro. Any hopes of a shock victory for the team from the northern zone of the Gaúcho capital were finally put aside as Taison handed Inter the lead with just three minutes remaining. The explosive young midfielder once again burst into the São Jose penalty area to see his shot striker a São Jose defender. Taison (87) made no mistake on the second attempt as he converted the rebound to hand Inter a late lead over the Zequinha. With the match coming to an end, referee Ânderson Daronco controversially dismissed two players as both Jonas and D’Alessandro after a minor scuffle with Tite also being issued a red card in the aftermath as he protested furiously against the poor decision. With eight minutes of additional time added, substitute Marcelo Cordeiro (90) secured the result for Inter with a well taken finish, to score his first goal since joining the club from Vitória.

Guiña extends contract / Palermo cool on Nilmar

Inter have been handed a double boost this weekend with international transfer window closing in less than a week.

Speaking to Radio Gaúcho show, ‘Show dos Esportes’, Giovanni Luigi revealed that midfielder Pablo Guiñazu is to sign a year extension to his contract, keeping him at the Beira-Rio for three more years.

“Guiñazu received offers from clubs in Brazil and from River Plate in Argentina. Therefore we are going to make a readjustment to his wages. He is an extraordinary player and we will increase his contract from two to three years”, revealed Luigi.

Meanwhile according to Zero Hora, Palermo have ended their interest in Nilmar. The Italians are long term admirers of the pacey striker, but their sporting director Walter Sabatini has denied that Palermo have made an offer for the player. It is thought that the current financial climate has put off the Italians with Inter rumored to be looking for offers in advance of €14 million, whilst Nilmar is said to be looking for a €3 million a year contract.

News round up

Índio is expected to return to training today after recovering from injury. The central defender missed Tuesday’s draw with Santa Cruz and could be available to Tite for Sunday’s match against São Jose.

Tite could however be without midfielder Guiñazu. The Argentine picked up a knock to his left knee on Tuesday night and is working with the club’s medical staff.

Out of favour left back Chiquinho is said to be keen on joining Brasil de Pelotas. Having been sent out on loan for the last two years, Chiquinho has reportedly requested to be loaned to Brasil to help the club in their Campeonato Gaúcho campaign.

One player keen to remain at Inter however, is striker Leandrão. Despite Alecsandro set to join the club next Tuesday, Leandrão is keen to fight for his place in the squad after impressing Tite during pre-season training at Bento Gonçalves. “I am ready for the responsibility”, he told Zero Hora.

Alecsandro signs for Inter

There is official confirmation this evening that Internacional have made a significant signing for the 2009 season by completing the transfer of powerful striker Alecsandro from U.A.E based club Al-Wahda.

Details of Alecsandro’s contract remain unconfirmed but the arrival of the striker is arguably the biggest signing of the transfer window so far for Inter.

After starting at Vitória, Alecsandro played for Ponte Preta before securing a big move to Cruzeiro where he impressed in Minas Gerais, becoming a key player in their Copa Libertadores campaign in 2008. Alecsandro then move to Europe, joining Sporting before his most recent club Al-Wahda in the U.A.E.

Alecsandro, 27, comes from a footballing background with his father Lela winning the Brasileirão in 1985 with Coritiba and his brother Richarlyson plays for São Paulo.

Transfer Round Up

Bandeirantes Radio links out of favour striker Luis Carlos with a move to an unnamed club in Turkey, whilst GloboEsportes reports that Nilmar is one of three top South American based strikers who on the short list of Greek side Panathonikos.

Staying at Inter however are the young attacking pair of
Marquinhos and Léo. After impressing at the prestigious Copa SP this month, the 18 year olds’ are close to completing a new deal with Inter which will keep them at the Beira-Rio for five years.

Gaúcho and Copa SP highlights now available

After a day of panic I’ve fortunately been given new links as to where I can find video highlights of the Campeonato Gaúcho after I found out yesterday that my usual source of Inter highlights, GloboEsportes.com doesn’t cover the Gauchão in much depth.

The following highlights include brief action of Inter’s goalless draw as well the Under 19’s defeat in the Copa SP. Unfortunately the clip also features action from Juventude’s match too.

Thanks to Flavio and Pedro for the link!

Inter expected to announce Kléber signing

According to finalsports.com.br, left back Kléber is set to be confirmed today as Inter’s latest signing of the new season.

The former Santos and Corinthians full back is thought to have wanted to delay any decision regarding his future until the end of January but, a deal taking the 28 year old now appears to be on the verge of completion after Gaúcho entrepreneur, Delcir Sonda purchased Kléber’s registration.

Last week Kléber’s father, Jordão Corrêa revealed to Globo Esportes that a deal with Inter was close to being agreed.

Walter scores for Seleção in Sudamericana U20

As Inter’s U19 side were knocked out of the Copa SP last night, three more bright Colorado prospects were in action for Brazil as the Seleção kicked off their Sudamericana Under 20 campaign in Venezuela.

Highly rated holding midfielder Sandro, powerful striker Walter and recent signing Giuliano all started Brazil’s opening match against Paraguay.

Walter scored a tremendous effort to put the Selecao in front only for Paraguay to level. The match finished 1-1.

Highlights:

Inter U19’s suffer Copa SP penalty heartbreak

Inter’s run in the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior came to a dramatic end last night as the Under 19’s bravely lost to São Paulo 6-5 on penalties, following a 2-2 draw.

Internacional took the lead through Élton on 24 mins only to fall behind 2-1 at the Estádio Dr. Augusto Schimidt Filho, Rio Claro. With just two minutes of the match remaining however, Léo scored a late equalizer for the Colorado to keep Inter’s hopes alive.

In the penalty shootout, both teams successfully converted their first five penalties but Vitor saw his penalty saved, sending São Paulo through to the semi finals.

Line Up: Willian, Daniel, João Pedro, Bregalda, Forster; Natan (Vitor), Juliano, Élton (Santin), João Paulo (Ronaldo), Marquinhos, Léo.

Despite their elimination from the Copa SP, Osmar Loss’ side looked more than competent through the competition and Inter can certainly take more positives than negatives from their Copa-SP campaign in which Marquinhos and Léo shorn bright as potential stars for the Colorado in the future.

Inter held by Santa Cruz in Gauchão stalemate

Internacional kicked off the 2009 Campeonato Gauchão last night only to be held to a surprise goalless draw by minnows Santa Cruz.

In the first match at the Beira-Rio since Inter’s famous Sudamericana victory over Estudiantes, Inter fielded a strong side against Santa Cruz with D’Alessandro, Alex and Nilmar all playing. Marcelo Cordeiro made his debut for the Colorado after coming on as a substitute for Marcão, whilst categorias de base product, Paulinho filled the vacant slot left by Edinho in midfield.

The match began with a minutes silence as nearly 15,000 supporters gave their respects to the Brasil de Pelotas victims involved in last week’s accident.

Surprisingly Santa Cruz started the stronger side, going close after just four minutes with Roberto Jacaré hitting a dangerous cross into the Colorado box. Santa Cruz stifled Inter and it took the Colorado until the 19th minute to threaten Santa Cruz’s goalkeeper Cássio as Magrão and Nilmar linked up well. Despite Inter dominating possession, chances were few and far between. D’Alessandro sporting his latest hair style came close twice whilst both Alex and Nilmar were frustrated by poor finishing.

At halftime, Tite showed his attacking intentions bringing on the more attacking Taison for Paulinho. Minutes later Alex came close to giving Inter the lead as his cross caused a mix up between the Santa Cruz defender and goalkeeper. The ball bobbled out towards Álvaro who hit a powerful shot narrowly wide. Inter continued to suffocate the visitors but remained unsuccessful in their attempts to break the deal lock in what was an evening of frustration at the Beira-Rio.

INTERNACIONAL 0-0 SANTA CRUZ

Inter U19’s aim for Copa SP semi finals

Internacional are in action again for a second time tonight as the Under 19’s continue their Copa SP campaign (20:30 local time). A victory against São Paulo will put them Osmar Loss’ side into the semi finals.

With the senior team facing Santa Cruz at the Beira Rio, the Under 19’s face São Paulo in Rio Claro (SP) and will be looking to extend their 100% record in the Copa São Paulo de Juniores.

Copa SP Quarter Finals:

Internacional v São Paulo
Cruzeiro v Atlético PR
Paraná v Avaí
Corinthians v Fluminense

Picture: Marquinhos and co will be looking to defeat the Tricolor Paulista tonight

Inter v Santa Cruz

Tonight see’s Inter kick off what will be both, their opening fixture of the club’s centenary year and the first fixture of 2009’s Campeonato Gaucho.

In what will be the first of six competitions Inter are competing in this year, the Colorado begin their defence of Gauchão title with the visit of Santa Cruz to the Beira-Rio (19:30 local time). Success in this year’s Gauchão would hand Inter a record 39 titles.

The club’s preparations for the 2009 season began at the beginning of the month with the squad spending eleven days in Bento Gonçalves undergoing physical preparation and Tite has been able to keep hold of the base of the last year’s team which finished the year strongly winning the Copa Sudamericana, despite underperforming in the Brasileirão.

With just eleven days left of the January transfer window, both Nilmar and Alex remain and Tite has added a handful of new (mainly young) players to strengthen the midfield and full back areas. The most notable absence is holding midfielder Edinho, with captain of the 2008 season moving to Italy with Lecce whilst youngsters Sandro, Giuliano and Walter are also absent with the Brazilian Under 20 squad.

Inter are expected to field a very strong side tonight with Lauro starting behind a strong defence consisting of Bolívar, Danny Morais, Álvaro and Marcão. In midfield, young midfielder Paulinho comes into the side to replace Edinho, joining the experienced trio of Guiñazu, Magrão and D’Alessandro. The Colorado first choice attacking pairing of Alex and Nilmar are expected to start up front.

Agenor Piccinin’s Santa Cruz side face a formidable task at the Beira-Rio tonight and are likely to field a midfield heavy, 3-6-1 formation. The visitors are expected to be without midfielder Kléber, striker Tiago and new signing Rodrigues.

Probable Line Up: Lauro, Bolívar, Danny Morais, Álvaro, Marcão, Paulinho, Guiñazu, Magrão, D’Alessandro, Alex, Nilmar

Arilton arrives at Beira-Rio

Internacional’s newest addition was presented to the media yesterday evening as 19 year old Arilton completed his transfer from Coritiba.

“I come to fight. I do not know Bolívar very well, but I certainly know whoever is playing best will play. I am a fast full back and am equally good offensively and defensively and like to support sufficiently, but I also know how to mark. I can play in a 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 with ease”, declared Arilton to the media.

A product from Coritiba’s categorias de base, Arilton moves to Inter to compete for the right back position with Bolívar and youngster Danilo Silva. Tite has made the right back position a priority area to strengthen following the departure of Ricardo Lopes and Ângelo from the 2008 squad.

Marquinhos has impressed in the Copa SP with Internacional’s U19 squad and stood out in yesterday’s quarter final victory against Figueirense, having created the first and scored the second in Inter’s 2-0 win.

Inter return to Beira-Rio

The Inter squad returned from their training camp in Bento Gonçalves and resumed training at the Beira-Rio ahead of Tuesday’s opening Campeonato Gaucho fixture with Santa Cruz.

With temperatures reaching 30 degrees in the exposed Beira-Rio field, many players had to wear sun protection for the training session which began at 10am this morning.

With the new season about to begin, Tite has already been given injury concerns with left back Gustavo Nery and Alex carrying knocks. Gustavo Nery twisted his left knee after clashing with Taison during this morning’s session and will now wait for the club’s medical staff to fully evaluate any damage.

Alex meanwhile is also carrying a slight knock to his hip and didn’t participate in any ball work during this morning’s session. At this stage both are thought to be available for Tuesday’s match at the Beira-Rio although it is not confirmed whether centre back Índio will be available as he returns to fitness from injury and failed to participate in training today.

Inter close to signing ex-Peixe, Kléber

The father of former Santos left back Kléber, Jordão Corrêa has confirmed that his son his close to completing a transfer to Inter.

Speaking to GloboEsporte.com Kleber’s father revealed, “We are in talks. There is nothing certain, but it is quite probably that it will happen.”

Santos have sold Kléber’s registration to the company DIS, who are part of the Sonda investment group for R$5 million which will allow the28 year old to join Internacional.

Kléber was a regular in the Santos side last season having joined the club in 2005. After starting his career at Corinthians, the left back was capped 13 times by the Seleção and earned a move to Europe.

Kléber’s arrival would mark the arrival of a second left back in recent weeks after Inter signed Marcelo Cordeiro earlier this month from Vitória.

In addition the club also have Gustavo Nery and Marcão at the club with some reports suggesting that Marcão’s future may now lie away from the Beira-Rio.

Inter cancel training schedule / Piffero makes gesture to Brasil

Internacional have announced that two friendly fixtures for this afternoon against Estrela da Serra e and Associação Barbosense have been cancelled as a mark of respect following the tradegedy involving Brasil de Pelotas.

“People have seen the images and news articles on the accident and are worried about thier friends. The climate is heavy. For respect, we will change our activies”, confirmed Tite.

Today is the last day of the club’s stay at their pre-season training camp in Bento Gonçalves. The squad are expected to return to Porto Alegre and train tomorrow at the Beira-Rio ahead of their opening Gauchão fixture against Santa Cruz on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, Inter president Vitório Píffero has offered to help Brasil de Pelotas as the club tries to rebuild itself following Thursday nights accident. Píffero has offered to loan players to the club to help them compete in forthcoming coming Campeonato Gaúcho.

“Inter is entirely at their disposal. If Brasil de Pelotas needs additional players, the president is ready to talk. We are in contact with all our representatives to help Brasil in what they feel would be necessary”, explained Piffero to GloboEsporte.

Brasil de Pelotas involved in terrible accident

In the aftermath of last night’s tragedy involving the Brasil de Pelotas football team, I have translated a more accurate report from Estadao.com

I will continue to update this post when further information becomes available. It appears that I am the only site reporting this in the English language.

Brasil de Pelotas the bus falls into ravine after unable to make a curve in the RST-471

Two players from Brasil do Pelotas, the attacker Claudio Milar and defender Régis and the club’s goalkeeping coach Giovani Guimarães, died after a bus accident on Thursday night, close to a road junction between the highway BR-392 and RST-471, in the city of Canguçu-RS, south-eastern Rio Grande do Sul.

The team had just won a friendly 2-1 against Santa Cruz and were heading back Pelotas when the accident happened. According to the Ecosul, which manages the highway, the bus driver failed to make a bend and went through the barrier and fell into the ravine. The accident occurred on the slip road to access the BR-392.

The bus was carrying 29 people in all, including the goalkeeper Danrlei, ex-Grêmio, who had only recently been hired by the club. He suffered only light injuries and helped rescues his companions. The police announced that there were four deaths but this information is not confirmed by the club.

The Uruguayan Milar, who was 34 years old, was one of the club’s biggest idols. He first played for the club in 2002 and went on to play 200 games, scoring 100 goals in the shirt of Brasil (de Pelotas). He also played with Portuguesa Santista, Nautical, Santa Cruz, Matonense and Botafogo. He was considered one of the stars of the team that is preparing to compete in the Gaúcho State Championship.

Meanwhile, Franciso Noveletto, president of the FCF (Gaúcho Football Federation) has stated that Brasil de Pelotas will have the option to withdraw from the championship without facing relegation.

My latest information is now that it is unlikely that Brasil will compete in the competition.

Meanwhile Inter coach Tite spoke of the horrific incident. “I can not translate my feelings. First I make a prayer so that people can absorb the blow and to bring me a great lesson in how important it is to embrace work and life”, revealed Finalsports.com.br.
I will try and provide further news when it arrives. If you have further information please post below.

My sincerest condolences go out to everyone associated with Brasil de Pelotas and Gaúcho football

Carvalho dismisses Kléber links

Inter vice-president Fernando Carvalho has dismissed talk of the club signing Dynamo Kiev forward Kléber.

Speaking to Radio Gaucho, Carvalho ruled out any move from Inter to sign Kléber who played out on loan for Palmeiras last season but dropped a hint over the expected arrival of Coritiba youngster Arilton.

“He is a good forward but Inter are not interested. You can discard it completely. We’re looking for a pacey player. We are bringing young players in on long contracts because we believe that they are promising which and had will have a positive future”, explained Fernando Carvalho.

Inter begin preparations for Santa Cruz

Inter’s technical staff have begun preparations for Tuesday’s Gauchão 2009 opener against Santa Cruz.

Cléber Xavier, Tite’s assistant travelled from Inter’s training camp in Bento Gonçalves yesterday evening to observe Santa Cruz play Brasil de Pelotas in the central Rio Grande do Sul city of Vale do Sol.

Inter’s opening fixture of the 2009 Campeonato Gaúcho kicks off next Tuesday (19:30 local time) at the Beira-Rio.

Inter thrash Rio Branco to advance in Copa SP

Internacional’s Under 18’s continued their unbeaten record in the Copa SP yesterday evening, beating Rio Branco (SP) 4-0 in their second round tie.

The Colorado got off to a perfect start going after just two minutes through Elton. Midfielder Juliano’s tenth minute strike then made it 2-0 before Léo added Inter’s third on 21 minutes. Midway through the second have Léo added his second of match to make it 4-0 and secure Inter’s place in the last eight. The margin of victory even more impressive for the Under 18’s who were without first choice strikers Lucas Roggia and Fabinho.

Inter’s quarter final’s opponents are the current Copa SP holders, Figueirense with the date and time of the fixture yet to be confirmed.

Inter eye up quarter final place in Copa-SP

Internacional’s U18 side are in action again tonight in the second round of the Copa São Paulo Júnior.

After winning their group with three consecutive victories in the group stage, Osmar Loss’ team now face Rio Branco (SP) in São José dos Campos (18:30 local team).

Rio Branco knocked Inter out of last years competition at the semi final stage and the Colorado will be without striker Fabinho for tonight’s game.

Inter expected to complete Arilton deal by Friday

The president of Coritiba, Jair Cirino confirmed last night to Radio Gaúcha that talks with Inter over the transfer of right back Arilton are well on track.

“There has been an agreement on values and the transaction should be concluded by Friday, the latest”, confirmed Cirino.

“There is no doubt that he is a great player. However, we have several players for the position and after discussions with the technical committee, we have agreed to allow these negotiation”, added the Coritiba president.

Neither club has confirmed the value of the deal for the 19 year old who is a product of the Coritiba youth set up.

Bianchi rules out Noir departure

Boca Juniors striker Ricardo Noir appears set to remain at the Argentine club after their coach, Carlos Bianchi revealed to Radio Guaiba that he was no prepared to allow the 21 year old striker to leave.

Internacional representative Fernando Otto has been in Buenos Aires in recent weeks attempting to conclude the deal. Negotiations were thought to be close to completion after another Boca were told that their other striker Palacio would not require surgery on an injury. Inter hoped that this would pave the way for Noir to move to the Beira-Rio.

Bianchi’s latest comments now seem to finally rule out any chance of Noir joining the Colorado after weeks of speculation and drawn out negotiations.

Tite who has made it clear that he wants to add a new striker to the squad ahead of the new season is expected to be particularly frustrated with this latest news.

Reports at the club’s pre-season training camp in Bento Gonçalves suggest that the coach could be set to give previously out of favour striker Leandrao another chance in the first team.

Ricardo Noir trains with Boca

Ricardo Noir is expected to train with Boca Juniors today as the Argentine club begin their pre-season preparations at their training camp in Estância La Elena, Tandil.

Inter’s attempts to sign the 21 year old striker have been prolonged as Boca requested that they fully evaluate the extent of injury to Noir’s team-mate Palacio.

Fernando Otto who has represented Inter throughout the negotiations confirmed yesterday that Palacio’s injury does not require an operation and there is no fresh hope that Noir will finally be unveiled as an Inter player later this week.

Ricardo Noir has revealed in recent weeks that he is keen to move to the Beira-Rio after failing to hold down a regular place in the Boca side.

Picture: Ricardo Noir's on-off move to Inter could finally be completed this week

Edinho leaves Inter

The captain of last seasons Copa-Sudamericana side- Edinho is no longer an Internacional player according to Radio Gaúcha.

The midfielder has left Inter and is looking to complete a transfer to a new club shortly.

Italian club Lecce have made their second offer to Edinho which his thought to meet Inter’s valuation of U.S$7.5 million and it is thought that the Lecce have already agreed terms with the 26 year old.

Despite this however, speculation is growing that Palmeiras are set to make a late attempt to sign Edinho and are prepared to offer the player a competitive salary to ensure he remains in Brazil.

Official confirmation of Edinho’s new club could be announced as soon as today.

19 year old Arílton is thought to be close to a move to Inter after the official site of his club Coritiba claims that Inter are in talk with right back.

With Tite having Bolívar and Daniel Silva as the squads only recognised right backs, the position has become a priority area to strengthen for Inter as they prepare for the 2009 season.

Speculation had previously linked Inter with Palmeiras’ Wendel but this latest news suggests that Arílton is the clubs target. No deal is thought to of been agreed yet and Fernando Carvalho, Inter’s vice president refuses to confirm any negoitiaons.

Arílton made just five appearances for Coritiba last season.

Inter U18’s through to second round

Inter’s Under 18 side booked their place in the second round of the Copa São Paulo de futebol junior youth tournament yesterday evening, with a 3-1 victory over São José (SP).

Inter were already assured of their place in the next round before the game after they had won both their two previous matches.

All three goals came in the second half with Elton, Marquinhos and Santin getting on the score sheet. The result confirms Inter as winners of Group K with a 100% record.

Paulinho aims for first team

Young midfielder Paulinho has revealed he is keen to take advantage of Edinho’s expected departure and break into the Inter first team.

With Edinho expected to complete a move to Italian club Lecce the youngster has impressed as Inter train in Bento Gonçalves and was applauded by the Inter fans during yesterday’s training session.

Paulinho faces strong competition to break into the side from new arrival Glaydson and fellow youth product Sandro. Despite this, Paulinho remains confident.

Inter add another midfielder to squad

29 year old holding midfielder Glaydson has become Internacional’s latest signing joining the Colorado on a one year loan from the Paulista club, São Caetano.

Glaydson joins Inter after playing last year in Série B having previously worked under Tite during 2004. The arrival of Glaydson will raise speculation that captain Edinho is close to leaving the club.

“It is an incredible sensation to wear the Inter shirt. I have been received by the staff very well. Now I am looking to work hard and find my place to help Inter in the six competitions that we’re competing for. I am a holding midfielder with good technique but I also know how to mark and anticipate the play”, announced Glaydson to the media in Bento Gonçalves.

Glaydson has spent much of his career playing in the state of São Paulo with Paulista (SP), São Bento (SP) and São Caetano as well as a spell in Minas Gerais with Atlético.

Picture: Glaydson, the replacement for Edinho?

Andrezinho signs new Inter deal

Inter have been given some good news after the expected end to the Ricardo Noir saga as midfielder Andrezinho committed himself to the club, signing a new contract.

After impressing towards the end of last season, it had appeared that Andrezinho was unlikely to stay at Inter after he and the club failed to agree terms.

However, the 25 year old has now signed a 12 month deal with Inter and has already joined up with the squad in Bento Gonçalves for pre-season training.

Andrezinho has made 50 appearances for the Colorado, scoring four goals.

Edinho close to completing Lecce transfer

GloboEsportes reports that Edinho will shortly complete his move to Italy as Lecce are expected to meet Inter’s valuation.

Having had their first offer for €2 million rejected earlier this week, Lecce are to lodge an improved offer this weekend with representatives from the Italian club already claiming that Edinho has agreed a contract.

Speaking from Bento Gonçalves at the club’s pre-season training camp, the Inter captain refused to comment on his future.

Noir transfer on verge of collapse

Ricardo Noir’s proposed transfer to Inter is on the verge of collapse today as Boca continue to refuse to be rushed into accepting Inter’s offer.

After being close to initially agreeing a deal for the 21 year old, Boca are now recluctant to officially accept Inter’s offer as they await to see the full extent of injury to their other striker Palacio.

If Palacio is expected to be out injured, it is doubtful Carlos Bianchi will allow Noir to leave.

To throw the issue into further doubt, leading Argentine newspaper Olé specuatles that Boca wish to introduce the possible transfer of Inter’s Guinazu into the negoitations, a move which Inter are very likely to reject.

Inter are now thought to turn their attentions to another striker, Alecsandro.

Piffero denies Lecce meeting

Speaking to Radio Gaúcho, Inter president Vitório Piffero denied having any meeting with Italian club Lecce over the sale of Edinho.

“We received a proposal that didn’t interest us and it was quickly rejected”, confirmed Piffero.

The offer made was reportedly for around €2 million but Edinho’s registration is split 51% with Inter and 49% with the player himself.

“We have values for our players. There is time and we can negotiate but we do not put players on a shelf to sell. We will only negotiate offers which are good for the club”, Piffero warned.

Noir decision postponed yet again

With a definitive answer expected from Boca yesterday, Inter are still yet to receive an answer as to whether the Argentines have accepted their offer for Ricardo Noir.

This latest delay must now throw the proposed deal into considerable doubt with new Boca coach Carlos Bianchi reported to be keen on keeping the 21 year old at the Bombonera.

Talks are expected to continue in Buenos Aires today with Inter representative Fernando Otto under pressure to conclude the deal.

Inter await Boca answer / Luiz Carlos set to leave

Boca Juniors are expected to confirm today whether they will accept Inter’s offer for striker Ricardo Noir. The one-off deal has been subject to mixed reports over the last 24 hours and according to entrepreneur Fernando Otto who is negotiating the deal for Inter, the final decision now lies with Boca’s recently appointed coach Carlos Bianchi.

Inter’s offer consists of US$1.5 million deal which would see the Colorado acquire 50% of Noir’s rights. If Boca do accept Inter’s offer the deal could be completed by the weekend.

Meanwhile, current Inter striker Luiz Carlos looks set to end his spell at the Beira-Rio despite only moving to the Beira-Rio from Série B side Ceará last August.

Newspaper Diário do Nordeste reports that despite having a contact with 2011 with Inter, the striker is out of favour with Tite and is expected to leave Internacional on loan. Luiz Carlos is thought to be keen to move to São Paulo state based club but is apparently against moving to Fortaleza, main rivals of his former club Ceará.

“My agent told me some weeks ago of interest from Fortaleza. I said that there is no possibility of this happening. I have a strong image with supporters of Ceará and it wound not be good to play in Fortaleza. I have a good proposal from South Korea and also a good one from São Paulo state. I believe in the next few days, everything will be confirmed”, revealed Luiz Carlos.

Inter’s complete their Group K next Thursday when they fact São José-SP knowing that today’s virtually guarantees Inter’s place in the next round of the competition.

Line Up: Anderson, Daniel, João Pedro, Bregalda, Forster; Juliano, Natan (Ronaldo), João Paulo (Vitor), Marquinhos, Fabinho (Leo), Lucas Roggia

Confusion surrounds Ricardo Noir deal

Ricardo Noir’s proposed transfer from Boca to Inter is surrounded by confusion as contrasting reports once again raise doubts over whether the prolonged deal will be completed.

Yesterday evening the Boca Juniors official site reported that Carlos Bianchi would not be prepared to sell Noir as it would not be good business to allow the 21 year old to leave.

A few hours later however, the Brazilian site finalsports.com.br then reported that Ricardo Noir’s transfer could finally be confirmed by the weekend following a meeting in Buenos Aires between entrepreneur and Inter representative Fernando Otto, Carlos Bianchi and the player himself.

The report suggests that the deal for Inter acquire 50% of the players rights will be confirmed this morning with the player travelling to Porto Alegre to complete the contract signing on Friday.

With the sudden departures of the club’s two goalkeeper coaches Ilo Roxo and Juliano Roxo and the arrival of new goalkeeper Michel Alves, should Clemer be made the clubs new goalkeeper coach?

After the appointment of Jorge Azevedo at Inter's new goalkeeping coach. The poll will now be cancelled.

Tite confirms Wendel interest

In an interview with GloboEsportes, Tite has confirmed his interest in the Palmeiras full back Wendel. Reports surfaced last week linking Inter with Wendell who was loaned out to Santos last season and whilst he remains a target, Bolívar will continue at right back.

“He was my player when I was at Palmeiras, there is a chance but it is just speculation”, confirmed Tite uncharacteristically.

Tite who is rarely speaks openly about potential new players also revealed that he hopes that he can keep the base of the team from 2008 but is still keen to add a striker to the squad.

“The idea is to keep the same team. We ‘re looking to add players but the base of the team is the one that finished 2008. We lack in areas but I do not want to cite the, It is important for the negotiations. We need to at least at a forward. Alecsandro of Al-Wahda, Ricardo Noir of Boca Juniors are both options” revealed Tite.

Marcelo Cordeiro and Michel Alves set to move to Beira-Rio

The double signing of Vitória left back Marcelo Cordeiro and Juventude goalkeeper Michel Alves is expected to be confirmed by the club later today.

The duo will be presented to the media once their contracts and medicals examinations are completed. Marcelo Cordeiro and Michel Alves will then become Inter’s third and fourth signings of the 2009season after the club signed youngsters Giuliano (Paraná) and Marinho (Fluminense).

“Tite has an experienced squad so I must adapt quickly. This is an important year for the club and the expectation is that we enter championships thinking of success”, explained Marcelo Cordeiro who has been a long term target for Inter.

“I have a very attacking playing style, but in the last Brasilerao with Vagner Mancini the team has a similar to shape to Inter’s 4-4-2. I acted more as a full back and adapted well. I am prepared”, added the 27 year old.

Meanwhile speaking to Bandeirantes radio, vice president Fernando Carvalho confirmed Michel Alves’ arrival. “When Lauro was contracted, Michel was one of the options but as he had a contract with Juventude we decided to wait for the right moment, that is now”, he explained.

27 year old Michel Alves arrives at Inter with a good reputation despite being part of a struggling Juventude side which famously losing 8-1 in a ruthless Inter performance during last year’s Campeonato Gaúcho. The goalkeeper is to sign for Inter on a one year contract with an option for an additional three years.

Inter receive warm welcome in Bento Gonçalves

Internacional received a warm welcome late yesterday as they arrived for their two week training camp in Bento Gonçalves.

Around 150 colorado’s greeted the squad on their arrival. Earlier in the team the supporters decorated the town with flags and banners with houses, cars and other buildings being decorated.

Inter have used Bento Goncalves as their pre-season training camp since 2003 except for last year when the squad competed in the Dubai Cup in the U.A.E.

The town which is 124km from Inter’s home Porto Alegre has a population of just over 100,000.

If you live in Bento Goncalves, I’d love to hear from you!

Internacional continue to reduce their squad ahead of next season as the future of three fringe players was confirmed yesterday.

Full back Jonas and striker Guto yesterday completed loan deals to Sport. The pair will move to the Pernambuco state based club on one year deals after failing to break into the Inter first team.

Guto’s move to Sport is expected to upset Sport’s cross city rivals Náutico who had long been linked with the young striker.
