Inter UK: Final Note

As you have probably noticed, the coverage on this blog has slowed down over the last two weeks. Unfortunately, I am finding it almost impossible to find the time each day to devote to the blog and write about Inter in English.

I have always worked very hard to make Inter UK a respectable source of information about Internacional but without being able to commit the time the blog deserves, the quality and content of the blog will eventually suffer.

Because of this, I have sadly decided to stop writing on the blog.

Over the last 18 months which the blog has been running, I have really enjoyed writing about Inter and it has been a pleasure to have learnt to understand the uniqueness of the club and the Gaúcho culture. I have been contacted by several wonderful Colorado’s and have even been sent gifts ranging from Inter flags to even erva-mate and Chimarrao!

The blog has almost had 70,000 visitors which I think is incredible! I never predicted so many people would visit the blog and a number of incredible things have happened through the blog. I was able to write a weekly blog on Globo Esportes ‘Blog do Torcedor’ thanks to Mateus Reck, I was interviewed by the club for the official publication ‘Revista do Inter’ and I have even been contacted by journalists in UK, Europe and Brazil as well as representatives from a major European club.

I would like to thank everyone who has visited the blog or contacted me, especially those who have contributed regularly – Flávio, Ronald, Emerson just to name a few.

Even though I am no longer writing about Inter, I will still of course continue to follow the fortunes of the famous red shirt from south Wales!

Fernando Carvalho looks for return to form

Inter vice president Fernando Carvalho has urged Inter to find the form that the team showed at the beginning of the season, despite an encouraging run of results which has seen the Colorado win their last five matches.

“At this moment we are looking for the football we displayed at the beginning of the season. In the last few games we have been victorious and we want to consolidate this and continue to improve. Inter are in a recovery process. We have to improve and continue to develop. The team is looking different following the exit of both Nilmar and Magrão”, affirmed Carvalho as Inter prepare for Wednesday’s visit of Corinthians to the Beira-Rio.

Meanwhile, Inter target Cléber Santana has been named in Atlético Madrid’s squad for their Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos on Wednesday.

The attacking midfielder has been in extended negotiations with both Atlético and Inter as he tries to resolve his future following a loan spell at Real Mallorca last season and is thought to want to return to Brazil.

Inter win pushes Colorado up into second

Second half goals from strike duo Taison and Alecsandro ensured Internacional three points against Santo André last night, moving the Colorado into second place.

After Palmeiras were unexpectedly held to a 1-1 draw with Botafogo, Inter move within four points of the Brasileirão leaders having played two games less. Atlético-MG however who are level on points with Inter, can overtake the Colorado tonight if they can get a result from Corinthians.

Guiñazu unexpectedly started after whilst Danilo Silva started at right back as Bolívar switched into central defence alongside Sorondo in the absence of Índio. Giuliano who impressed during Inter’s win against Sport continued in the side after D’Alessandro began a five match ban whilst former Inter left back Gustavo Nery lined up for Santo André.

On a poor playing surface at the Estádio Bruno José Daniel, both teams had opportunities to go in fornt in the opening exchanges. A lively start from Inter saw Santo André’s ‘keeper Neneca come out to save at the feet of Giuliano whilst at the other end, Rômulo dribbled past Danilo Silva as his shot came back off the cross bar. The home side again went close moments later when centre back Cris powered a header over the bar from a Santo André corner.

With the pitch making it difficult for Inter to pass the ball, chance’s for Tite’s side were restricted with Taison’s over ambitious overhead kick failing to threaten the Santo André goal after Andrezinho and Alecsandro linked up well.

Despite telling the press at half time he had never played on such a bad pitch in all his time as a professional footballer, Alecsandro came into life in the second half as his dipping shot from the edge of the box was well save by Neneca. Neneca was forced into action again shortly afterwards as Taison and Giuliano linked up well. However the biggest threat to the Santo André keeper was to be one of his own defenders as Kléber’s cross into the box was careless cleared for Neneca to save at full strength whilst Alecsandro was inches away from connecting with the rebounding ball at the back post. Santo André’s luck was to finally run out however. After a need one-two with Giuliano, Taison (68) unleashed a well struck effort from 20 yards which flew into the top hand corner, giving Inter the lead.

With Inter looking increasingly threatening on the counter attack, Taison’s kick out at a Santo André defender proved costly as the Inter number 7 was issued a straight red card with just over ten minutes remaining. The needless sending off rules Taison out of Wednesday’s match with Corinthians.

The red card appeared to motivate the home side as they searched for the equaliser with substitute Ricardo Goulart going close.

Inter were able to secure the points however when the tireless Giuliano was brought down inside the box in the closing stages. Alecsandro (87) sent Neneca the wrong way to score the resulting penalty securing Inter the three points.

The fantastic Ronald 'Gordo' Miorin returns this week with his latest, unique views-

Two thousand, two hundred years ago, on banks of the River Tiber, in what is now known as Italy, the Roman Republic laid the foundations of the future Roman Empire.

The power of Rome were their legions: thousands of Plebs soldiers were disciplined, courageous and loyal to their leaders.

The origin of this loyalty has been a matter of dispute among historians. However, no one discusses that - beyond the pursuit of personal profit, religious grounds and social relations - there was pride. Being a legionnaire was cause of immense pride, and was managing this feeling that leaders as Caius Julius Caesar, Caius Marius or Pompeu Magno managed to tackle and win warriors peoples with larger armies.

Great generals like Pirro of Epirus and Hannibal of Carthage were defeated only because the Romans did not give up. No matter how many times they lose, they always returned.

In due time, soldiers were made aware of their own value and began to demand greater rewards. The solution was simple: start new wars, which ended with the Roman banners in beaches of Brittany, on banks of Danube, at the foot of Atlas Mountains and in deserts of Syria.

It is correct a conclusion that points pacifists as Augusto and Adriano (the builder of wall in Brittany) as the major destroyers of Rome. If the Empire would not grow, the Empire necessarily had to end... and that is the lesson Rome taught us: Know - and keep - your own strength.

Even the least intelligent director of Internacional knows, or should know, that the great strength of club is vast Colorado's legion. People like you, my friend Matt, raised the club, built the Gigante Stadium and did everything to make Internacional what it is today.

It is important to remember that Internacional has the sixth or seventh largest crowd of fans in Brazil. For each Colorado exist – there are at least - 6 Corinthians lovers and 7 Flamengo's fans. States of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are infinitely richer than the Gaucho's country. Paradoxically, Inter has the largest number of paying members (100,115) and only Inter has fans as main financial support.
But the mob has many heads and many wishes. It is very difficult to satisfy plebs. Among three Colorado’s, there are three coaches: I want to attack quickly, you want a solid defence, he wants possession of the ball in midfield.

Maybe, we can learn another Roman lesson: Panem et Circences. This "Bread and Circus" policy can be translated as "reduce people's concerns and give them joy".
Well... against Colorado's wishes, Fernando Carvalho maintained Tite and his hated balance; against mob's desires, Fernando Carvalho opted not to hire Fernandão; against all advice, Fernando Carvalho expelled D'Alessandro from main team.

The Colorado's answered in last game: at 32 minutes, when D'Alessandro raised from bench, Beira-Rio Stadium trembled with 16,000 voices. The tribunes delight even before he touches the ball. In eight minutes, he showed his ability and scored a fantastic goal.

In an interview published on Wednesday, D'Alessandro talked about the reaction of the Colorado's: "Nobody can buy the affection of fans. They like me because I play well."

If Fernando Carvalho did not understand the message of people, I can explain:
- Do not be stupid, man. Give us circus!

- Stop turning our backs to people... or - in the absence of River Tiber – we will toss you in Guaíba River!

Giuliano gunning for Brasileirão title

Giuliano spoke to Guaíba radio yesterday and spoke of Inter’s desire to improve and to help Inter the year’s Campeonato Brasileiro.

The 19 year old who played a key role in Inter’s convincing 3-0 win over Sport last Monday explained that he is keen to improve.

“I work to get in the team and then to do well but. I have to a lot of growing to do as a player, I need to improve and correct errors. I am working to establish myself in the team”, he explained.

“The Libertadores is valuable but it is clear that we want the (Brasileirão) title, for the squad and the quality it has. Our bad phase has finished and now it is for us to make a good sequence of victories”, added Giuliano.

Giuliano could well feature again for Inter’s visit to Santo André on Saturday with Guiñazu unlikely to recover in time from a knee injury.

Inter unveil Fabiano Eller and Edu

Inter unveiled their latest signings at the Beira-Rio yesterday afternoon as central defender Fabiano Eller and attacking midfielder Edu officially signed for the club.

Eller who won both the Libertadores and World Club Cup during his first spell with the club has signed a contract until December 2010 whilst Edu returns to Brazil from Spain, signing a three year deal.

Fabiano Eller spoke of his delight of returning to Inter after a enduring a miserable time at Santos.

“It is a pleasure to be here again, to return to the club that I had so much success in 2006 gives me great satisfaction. It is not hypocrisy, all my family supports Inter. A wise person will always return here which is why I left the door open when left. I return here with the objective of winning titles. We have a squad good enough to win the Brasileirão”, explained the 31 year old.

Meanwhile Edu spoke of his return to Brazil after a successful five year spell in Spain.

“At São Paulo I played like a striker. In Europe different tactical systems are used and I was used in all functions from midfield to attack. I am not a player who likes to be stuck in the area. I like to be on the ball but Tite will decide this.

“As Nilmar has a history here, I have a history at Betis. Now I start again back at zero. I had options to transfer to other European clubs and clubs in Arab football but with my family, I found it would be best to come back to Brazil. It is a new experience for me. Inter has a great squad to fight the title of the Brasileirão”, explained Edu.

D’Alessandro returns as Inter thrash Sport

Inter move back into the top four after a comfortable 3-0 victory over struggling Sport last night. Giuliano opened the scoring before half time before second half goals from Sandro and the returning Andrés D’Alessandro gave Inter a comfortable victory in Porto Alegre.

From xinhuanet.com - Two weeks away from Brazil, Internacional showed that they have not lost their step as they beat Sport 3-0 on Monday.

After their victory in Japan by winning the Suruga Cup last week, Internacional returned to the Brazilian soccer championship.

They opened scoring in the 43rd minute as Giuliano, off a crossed pass from Kléber, dribbled through and blasted the ball into the back of Sport's net.
In the 51st minute, Internacional scored off a corner kick when Sandro one-timed the ball into the net.

As the game came to a close, Internacional scored their third goal on 86minutes when D'Alessandro broke to the left side of the field and shot directly towards Sport's goalie Magrao before the ball ended up rolling into the back of the net.

With the victory, Internacional returns to the top-four of the Brazilian championship with 30 points, while Sport remain in dead-last place with a miserable 13 points

Following their exploits in Japan last week, Inter turn their attentions to the Campeonato Brasileiro once again as Sport visit the Beira-Rio (21:00 local time). A win for Inter could put them back amongst the top four as the Colorado title challenge continues.

Having only trained lightly since returning to Brazil, Inter are expected to name a similar team to the one which defeated Oita Trinita 2-1. Taison, who was stretchered off in the Copa Suruga final has been passed fit as does goalkeeper Lauro who is expected to displace back up Michel Alves.

Perhaps the most notable name to be declared available however is D’Alessandro. The Argentine is expected to be named on the bench tonight after training away from the first team for two weeks in a bid to regain full fitness.

Magrão continues to recover from a muscular problem and will not feature as transfer speculation continues to surround the future of the midfielder. Sorondo will also miss out after the club’s medical department recommended he is rested after playing the last seven games with Danny Morais expected to come into the centre of the Inter defence.

Sport meanwhile visit Porto Alegre under pressure to end winless run of seven matches and the game marks the first match in charge for newly appointed coach Péricles Chamusca. Fabiano Eller In, Álvaro Out

Central defender Fabiano Eller is set to make a surprise return to the Beira-Rio after rescinding his contract with Santos on Friday. Eller, 31, is expected to sign for Inter on Monday whilst Álvaro has unexpectedly left the club.

Álvaro has fallen out of favour in recent weeks and has been linked with a move to Goiás. After joining Inter last year Álvaro played a key role in the Colorado’s Copa Sudamericana success.

“I had a high wage and I felt that I was justifying it. We talked to the directors and agreed I would leave. I leave with a wonderful impression. I feel close to the environment that has formed here over the last year, mainly the hospitality of the Gaúcho’s”, Álvaro explained.

Fabiano Eller meanwhile returns to the club he originally joined in 2006 where he became a part of the famous Copa Libertadores and FIFA World Club Cup winning side where he formed a formidable partnership with Bolívar. After a two year spell with Atlético Madrid, Fabiano Eller joined Santos last year.

Finally, former Real Betis forward Edu is expected to be officially be unveiled to the media on Tuesday afternoon.

Inter UK feature: Return to the land of Toshiro

Ronald 'Gordo' Miorin once again shares his weekly thoughts as the Inter squad travel back from Asia.

In 2006, in a famous advert on Brazilian TV promoting the FIFA World Cup, a small Japanese boy asked his father about a shock: "It is another earthquake?"

"Stay calm, Toshiro - replied the father - Colorado is coming to Japan."

After Inter won against Barcelona, a new advert was screened. This time, Toshiro asked about a new shock, and his father answered: "Now, it is a real earthquake. Colorado’s are jumping on the other side of the World!"

For reasons that only psychology can explain, the success was absolute. The little artist became so famous that he was even brought to the Beira-Rio to have photos with the players. Even today, the boy is loved by all Colorados.

Now, with the blessing of Conmebol, Inter once again return to lands of Toshiro. Without Nilmar, sold; without D'Alessandro, expelled; without a smart coach... Today, Inter’s trip to Japan does not make the earth tremble. Inter beat Oita Trinita (2-1) but it was a horrible football of football.

Without doubt, the Inter team has become something common, simple, almost easy to defeat... and will continue that way until some attitudes change.

Initially, the club need to know your own size and prestige. We have 100,135 paying members, the second largets budget and payroll in Brazil. Inter is not club for poor players like Leandrão, Danilo Silva and others.

The days of tests and experience has gone. The Inter can recruit and develop young players like Giuliano, but we can not depend on them to win. The first team must have experienced players, fast, capable and with good physical preparation.

Secondly, the direction needs to act with professionalism. In 2008, we spent a month without a coach, and in the end, we hired a coach who was unemployed - by incompetence - for a long time. In 2009, we hired a physiologist who left Inter for one month - at Copa do Brasil finals - to work in Brazilian Team. Why pay a professional who is absent at the time their most needed?

My friend Matt, we need a decision: Either D'Alessandro will stay at Inter and he should play... or he will leave Inter and we must to sell him immediately... We can not paying thousands of dollars only to make his agent happy.

Finally, some decisions have to be questioned. Nobody questions the honesty or passion of Fernando Carvalho, but someone needs to tell him that football is done with good players and a competent coach.

In his first term, Fernando Carvalho led Inter to the brink of the abyss. In fact, we escape to fall to second division in the last round. In his second term, Fernando Carvalho led Inter to the summit of glory.

Now, with Tite, Leandrão and others, is Fernando Carvalho trying to return to the abyss?

The buying season ends in a few days... and even old Fernandão came not back...

Japan is a place far away ... for us, Brazilians, Japan is exactly on the other side of the world.

Hopefully a few days with thier heads down and feet up will change some attitudes... or we - Colorado fans - will make a new earthquake... this time in Beira-Rio!

New look Inter set to return from Japan

The Inter squad are scheduled to return to Porto Alegre later today with the club on the verge of completing two new signings.

Former Real Betis forward Edu has already confirmed he has agreed terms with the club and is expected to officially sign for Inter today.

Speaking from Spain, Edu revealed, “It was a privilege to have played in Spain, but now I am coming back contented to join a great team. Now I have that to respect the ones that already are there and fight for my place.”

Expected to join Edu at the Beira-Rio is another Spanish based Brazilian, Cléber Santana. His transfer from Atlético Madrid to Inter is thought to have all been agreed and is awaitng banking guarantees to be confirmed before the deal can officially be announced.

The €5 million fee is being paid jointly by the São Paulo based Sonda investment group and Internacional who are playing €3 million and €2 million respectively. Cléber Santana is expected to arrive in Porto Alegre on Monday.

One name who will not be joining Inter however is Palmeiras midfielder/full back Sandro Silva. The player’s agent Adriano Spadoto had previously revealed that he had been in contact with Inter regarding a possible deal but speaking to Radio Bandeirantes he confirmed that Palmeiras coach Muricy Ramalho had no intention of allow the player to join Inter.

“Between us and Inter there was a possibility but we have a contract with Palmeiras to fulfill and the negotiations have stopped. Palmeiras did not speak about the value of the deal. Muricy Ramalho only said that it would be bad to strengthen a club that are competing for the title”, confirmed Spadoto.

Meanwhile, more speculation continues to link players both, to and from Inter.

The latest name being speculated by Radio Bandeirantes is Figueirense striker Rafael Coelho. The 21 year old is the top scorer in Série B with 12 goals and is thought to be keen on a move to Inter, carrying a fee of €3 million.

Moving out of the Beira-Rio could be Leandrão after Vitória president Jorge Sampaio expressed his interest in the reserve Inter striker to globoesporte.com.

Sampaio claimed that Leandrão is keen on moving to Vitória and hopes to conclude negotiations with Inter over the weekend, once officials have returned from Japan.

Finally there were puzzled faces yesterday after the official Internacional site was hacked leaving visitors to see various images of the Botafogo badge! The site has now returned to normal.

Inter step up efforts to sign right back

Inter are thought to be close to making a further addition to the squad with two right backs expressing their interest in moving to the Beira-Rio.

Speaking to Bandeirantes Radio last night, Palmeiras’ Sandro Silva revealed that his agent is in negotiations with Inter and could move to Inter within the next ten days.

Sandro Silva, 24, can play both as a holding midfielder or right back and has made just four appearances for Palmeiras this year, making him eligible to move to another Brasileirão club following the seven match ruling which makes players ineligible to play for another club.

Another name who continues to be linked with Inter is Roma’s Cicinho.

Also speaking to Bandeirantes Radio, the agent of the former Atlético Mineiro and São Paulo full back denied having any contact with Inter but failed to rule out a move, once the player has recovered from injury.

“He returned to Brazil for the recovery of his injury and is already working with the ball. Now I will see if his desire is to remain at Roma or to look at another option”, explained Cicinho’s agent Ricardo Sarti.
When asked if a return to Brazil is improbable Sarti revealed,

“We never say impossible in football. But, for the time being what have to what the player desires. Internacional is a great club that is always competition with a great squad”.

Inter sign Edu Schmidt / Fernandão explains Inter rejection

Porto Alegre newspapers Zero Hora and Correio do Povo are both reporting that Edu has agreed to join Inter.

No official announcement has been made but it is thought that the 30 year old attacking midfielder will officially sign a two year contract with the club on Friday when Inter return from Japan.

Edu suffered an injury hit season with Real Betis in Spain before being released. Edu who holds a E.U passport has also had spells with São Paulo and then Celta Vigo.

Meanwhile former captain Fernandão has explained his reasons for not joining Inter.

On his official blog, the Colorado idol explained that he was keen to return to Inter but was left unhappy after failing to make contact with Fernandão Carvalho by phone and email.

Fernandão explained, “I spoke with Giovanni Luigi for half an hour and was told Carvalho would contact me in ten minutes. I waited all Wednesday and Thursday and nothing. Then on Friday night I received an email from Fernando Carvalho. The email said that he was going to Japan and to keep in contact via email and when I arrive in Japan to speak to Piffero…. I didn’t feel this was from his heart”.

Inter were crowned Copa Surugua champions this morning after a 2-1 victory over Oita Tinrita thanks to goals from Alecsandro and Andrezinho.

After a goalless first half on a poor surface at Oita’s ‘Big-Eye’ Stadium, Alecsandro (50) took full advantage of Andrezinho’s threaded ball to put Inter front. Shortly afterwards Inter doubled their lead as Andrezinho (59) sent a long range curling shot past Oita’s hapless goalkeeper, Nishikawa.

Inter’s lead was reduced almost immediately though when a minute later, midfielder Higashi (60) finished from close range to pull a goal back for the Japanese side.

Despite Taison being stretchered off with a suspected thigh injury, Inter were able to hold on to become the second successive South American team to win the Copa Suruga Bank.

Meanwhile after the game club president Vitório Píffero clarified the club’s current transfer situation as speculation continues to name several players with moves to and from the Beira-Rio.

“Fernando Carvalho and Giovanni Luigi are working to sign two or three players who will be important to us in winning the Brasileirão title. The negotiations are at an advanced stage and hope to have a result. I had a proposal for Magrão and it was refused and there was no second offer. We have not received anymore contact and we will not be selling Sandro” declared Píffero.

Former Celta Vigo and Real Betis forward Edu Schimdt is being targeted by Inter, according to the player’s agent.

Jose Fuentese who represents Edu admitted to Radio Gaúcho yesterday afternoon that Inter are one of a number of clubs who have expressed an interest in the 30 year old.

Edu made just a handful of appearances for São Paulo before transferring to Europe where following a successful four year spell with Celta Vigo, he joined Real Betis in 2004.

Last year Edu struggled with injury before being released following Real Betis’ relegation.

Meanwhile, Santos defender Fabiano Eller has played down talk of a return to Inter after speculation linked the 31 year old with the Colorado.

“There has been no offer and nobody has looked at me. I have a contract until the end of the year however I will not be playing here. I would clearly be very honoured to wear the shirt of Inter again”, he explained to Bandeirantes Radio.

After moving to the Vila Belmiro based club last year, Fabiano Eller has since found himself out of favour at Santos and is actively seeking a new club.

Oita Trinita v Inter

Inter have returned to Japan three years after winning the FIFA World Club Cup with the aim of becoming the first Brazilian club to win the Suruga Bank Championship (Copa Suruga Bank).

Twelve hours ahead of Brazil, the match kicks off local time at 19:00 (07:00 Porto Alegre, 11:00 UK).

With Argentine outfit Arsenal de Sarandi winning last year’s inaugural title, Inter this year face an Oita Trinita side who are struggling at the foot at the J-League table.

After choking in the finals of both the Copa do Brasil and Recopa, Tite will be keen to lead Inter to silverware but is expected to be without his increasingly influential midfielder Andrezinho who is a major doubt following a training ground injury. Glaydson is expected to replace Andrezinho in a depleted Inter midfield who are already without Magrão and D’Alessandro.

Deputy goalkeeper Michel Alves will continue in the side with Lauro injured providing Inter veteran Clemer a place on the bench. Clemer who was part of the Inter side who last played in Japan explained,

“Japan gave us many good souvenirs. Those were incredible days. We’re waiting to also win this title”, he declared.

Inter could earn a potential US$200,000 if they win the competition which will go straight to penalties if they match is level after 90 minutes.

Inter ‘miss out’ out on Fernandão as former idol agrees to join Goiás

It has been confirmed that Fernandão, the hugely popular former captain, will not be returning to Inter after agreeing to join Goiás after a manic couple of hours last night.

Reports broke early yesterday evening on ESPN Brasil that Fernandão, who had just rescinded his contract with Qatar based Al-Gharafa, had agreed to return to his former club, sparking off celebrations as supporters celebrated the return of their idol.

At around 7pm, ClicEsportes announced that Fernandão would not be joining Inter sparking confusion and speculation amongst Inter supporters.

An hour later, Fernandão confirmed on his own blog that he would be returning to Brazil to play for Goiás after not being given the opportunity to return to Internacional.

“Everybody knows I have two "homes" in Brazil. One of these had their doors open wide, while the other had the doors closed shut.

“It's not for the money, and it wasn't before. I’ll explain more tomorrow”, read the post on fernandaof9.com.br.

As the news began to sink in that Fernandão would be returning to his home state Goiás and not Inter, the plot thickened once more when Rádio Guaíba called Fernando Carvalho in Japan who denied Fernandão’s claims.

Carvalho said he was surprised by Fernandão’s decision adding Inter had a genuine interest in resigning him. The Inter vice president explained that he had contacted Fernandão by both phone and mail, claiming he had evidence of this. Carvalho added that Fernandão was supposed to wait for Inter delegation to return back from Japan before continuing negotiations.

So we wait for today to find further details from Fernandão with questions being raised as to why, if Fernandão’s claims are correct, he was not offered the opportunity to rejoin Inter.

Inter UK guide to the Copa Suruga

Having travelled to Japan, Inter are the first Brazilian club to compete in the Suruga Bank Intercontinental Championship (Copa Suruga) since the championship was formed by the Japanese Football Association and CONMEBOL in 2008.

The yearly competition see’s the play the J-League Cup winners play the Copa Sudamericana champions. Last year, Argentina’s Arsenal beat Gamba Osaka 1-0 in the inaugural championship.

Inter’s opponents for Wednesday as J-League side Oita Trinita who despite winning the 2008 J-League Cup are struggling in this year’s championship as they find themselves bottom of the table with just one win and one draw from 16 games.

The venue for Wednesday’s match is Oita Stadium which was used during the 2002 World Cup. The 40,000 capacity stadium is also known as the ‘Big Eye’ in reference to how the stadiums roof opens.

Inter ‘keeper agrees Turkey move

Internacional goalkeeper Luis Carlos is set to join second division Turkish club Bucaspor after finalising negotiations last week.

The 20 year old had been on loan from Inter to Brasil de Pelotas where he impressed during the Xavente’s 2009 Gauchão campaign which was marred by tragedy following an accident which resulted in the deaths of two players and goalkeeper coach earlier this year.

As part of the loan agreement, Luis Carlos had a clause in his contract to speak a European club should an offer be made.

“The transfer is important, it’s a forward step in my career and I it is a dream which is becoming to come true. I think that all players want to be in Europe and this is very good for my careers”, explained Luis Carlos.

Luis Carlos’ contract with Inter was due to expire on 28th February 2010.

Fernandão set for Inter return?

Speaking to Radio Gaúcho over the weekend, Fernandão added to speculation linking the former captain with a dramatic return to the Beira-Rio.

Fernandão who is in the process of rescinding his contract with current club Al-Gharafa, is widely expected to return to Brazil and will announce where his future lies on Wednesday.

Speaking from Doha, Fernandão explained-

“I have head from three parties but I won’t speak of the clubs. Now the supporters have to understand things are not simple. I have great affection for the club (Inter) but it needs to consider whether the coach wants me and whether the directors would like me to return. It’s logical there’s the possibility that I could return to Inter. I do not want to force the situation nor create expectation. Everything must be analyzed and from the moment I have the offer in my hand I will go and study it.”

Santos and Corinthians are thought to be the other two clubs who are competing with Inter to bring the Colorado idol back to Brazil.

Inter arrive in Japan

The Inter squad completed their journey to Japan yesterday morning after a gruelling flight which took in São Paulo and New York.

The squad were given special instructions to adapt to the Japan’s 12 hour time difference by the club’s conditioning coach Fábio Mahseredjian.

After landing in the city of Oita, the club were greeted by Japanese fans at both the airport and hotel with memories still fresh of Inter’s World Club Cup triumph in Yokohama in 2006.

Inter have scheduled evening training sessions for tonight and tomorrow ahead of Wednesday’s match.

A day later than usual, the fantastic Ronald Gordo shares with us a unique insight comparing anicent Celtic history and our beloved Internacional in this week's intriguing piece.

Today, my friend Matt, we will discuss a subject you know... You are Welsh and your ancestors were Celts, ancient worshipers of nature.

Like all animists, the Celts believed animals, plants and phenomena of nature were divine manifestations, almost the Gods themselves. The druids were not priests in the traditional sense of mediators between men and gods, but people with sufficient knowledge of nature to interpret the divine manifestations.

The Oak tree would certainly attract the attention of the druids. The Oak, as the largest tree in Northern Europe, was the one most often struck by lightning - the most powerful and most destructive force of nature.

Moreover, the Oak’s wood is very hard wood. It is a very good material to make doors and boats. Going through a door is to leave a place and enter into another; boats are the oldest transport method to man.

Thus, for the druids, the Oak tree was a gateway between worlds, an eternal link between men and gods, a place where portals could be erected. The most appropriate place for a human sacrifice was near the Oak.

The cult of the Oak was not only for Celts. The Greeks also saw mystical powers in this tree. In classical mythology, the Oak was a symbol of Zeus and his sacred tree. In prehistory, The Oracle of Dodona consisted solely of a holy Oak.

Oracles - you know - were places where one could hear the divine wisdom.

And what all this has to do with Internacional?

Well, my friend Matt, we have our Sacred Oak, conveniently named Fernando Carvalho... Carvalho, as you know, is the Portuguese word for Oak tree.

Fernando Carvalho is the man who led Internacional to the top. He formed the team that led Internacional to the conquest of America and all the World. He built a door that took us from Hell to Heaven. He is our Sacred Oak.

Because the Gods of Ball command him, everything he does is correct, fair and good.
It is through him that the Gods of Football talk with us, poor Colorado mortals. He only speaks the truth, his words are like an oracle.

Now, the Oak demands the head of D'Alessandro, the best player in Beira-Rio. Thus, D'Alessandro will be sacrificed to appease the Gods.

So, if he chose Tite, we cannot discuss. We – the one hundred thousand ignorant small people - can not challenge the decisions of the Gods.

You should forget the Copa do Brasil and Recopa. You should forget all defeats, all the missed goals, all the wrong changes, all stupid decisions. Tite was chosen for Fernando Carvalho, and that is all you need know, for good and for evil.

Inter following ahead without tested moves, without defence, without attack, without ball possession, without all things make good football... but you must believe in Fernando Carvalho and his Chosen One.

At orders of Tite, D'Alessandro did not play anything, Taison does not score goals, Guiñazu does not steal the ball, even Sorondo does not defend... D'Alessandro, Taison, Guiñazu, Índio and Sorondo are wrong; Tite, the Chosen One, is right.

You must blame everybody but Tite. The Gods forbid you to speak against Tite.

Mainly, the Gods forbid you to remember that a door that leads to Heaven, also leads back to Hell... and the only thing the Oracle of Dodona did not anticipate was the destruction of the Greek Civilization.

Perhaps, the time has come to overthrow the Oak.

Tottenham emerge as Sandro admirers

Lance are reporting that Tottenham have emerged as the previously unnamed club who have interested in Inter midfielder Sandro.

The Brazilian U20 captain, who has already made himself a regular name at Inter after breaking into the first team last year, revealed today that he was aware that Tottenham have made an offer for him but didn’t expect Inter to sell him at this time.

Tottenham are thought to of made an offer of over €10 million for the 19 year old defensive midfielder with Inter owning 70% of the player’s registration.
Inter are not thought to be likely to be prepared to sell Sandro having sold Nilmar to Villarreal last week. Despite this speculation continues to surround the future of several key Inter players.

Inter head off to Japan under cloud of speculation

The Inter squad will train this morning before heading off to Japan ahead of Wednesday’s Copa Suruga match against Japanese club Oita Trinita.

As the squad travel to Japan, speculation surrounds the future of several players as international transfer window opens.

D’Alessandro’s agent, Fernando Oto has joined Fernando Carvalho in publicly denying suggestions that the Argentine could move to Europe.

With the D’Alessandro not even training with the first team squad at present as he works towards full fitness, reports suggest that the playmaker has fallen out with Tite with AEK Athens keen to sign him.

“He does not have a reason to leave Inter and the supporters know this. Sixty days ago he bought an apartment in Porto Alegre to live with his family and I can guarantee is exit is 100% impractical. A fight between Tite and D’Alessandro did not occur”, Fernando Oto told Bandeirantes radio who also claim that a German club is set to make an approach for Inter captain Guiñazu.

In Italy, the newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport is claiming that Fiorentina are interested in Sandro. Fiorentina who are looking for a replacement after selling Felipe Mello have also been linked with Inter’s former captain Edinho who is currently with Lecce.

With transfer speculation rife, Sandro is also wanted by an English club. Bandeirantes radio are claiming the unnamed club are set to make an offer to Inter early next week.

Finally, rumours continue to link Fernandão with a possible return to the Beira-Rio. Fernandão is expected to rescind his contract with current club Al-Gharafa after spending a year in Qatar.

Fernandão’s solicitor Paulo Roberto explained told Bandeirantes radio that although no contact had been made between the two clubs, a return to Brazil is most probable.

Whilst a return to Inter is likely to be Fernandão’ s preferred destination, Santos, Corinthians, Palmeiras and São Paulo are all rumoured to be interested.

Finally, Inter are close to signing 19 year old pair Diogo (left back) and Nando (midfield) from América-MG according to the Gaúcho journalist Ernani Campelo on his Blog do Campelo.

Late Sorondo goal snatches Inter win

Inter picked up their first win in four games last night after Gonzalo Sorondo’s late header secured the Colorado the points.

With influential supporters group Camisa 12 conducting a peaceful protest against Tite before the game, Inter started brightly. Alecsandro (6) rose well to head in Andrezinho’s well delivered cross to score his fifth goal of the Brasileirão.

With the vistor’s failing to threaten Inter added their second as Andrezinho (27) scored a precisely struck free kick from just outside the area as the increasingly influential number 10 turned from provider into goalscorer.

Just before halftime Inter found themselves unable to deal with Barueri free kick. With both team’s desperately scrambling in the box for the ball, Sandro (45) put the ball into his own net to give Barueri some hope going into the break.

Inter went close to adding a third with both Andrezinho and a much improved Taison threatening, the lack of a third goal was to prove costly however as Barueri got themselves back into the game late in the second half.

Stand in ‘keeper Michel Alves was unable to hold Ewerton powerfully struck free kick leaving André Luiz (79) to bundle the ball in from close range to pull Barueri level.

With Inter looking ever likely to extend their winless run to four games, Andrezinho and Sorondo came to the rescue of the Colorado with just minutes remaining. Andrezinho’s beautifully struck freekick from 25 yards out beat Baueri’s Renê before coming back off the crossbar and falling to Sorondo (86) who smashed in the winner in dramatic fashion.

Inter UK comment: Improvement is clearly still required but wins generate much needed confidence for the Inter side and Andrezinho’s performance was particularly impressive, playing a hand in all three Inter goals. A much improved performance from Taison was summarised after his applause from the Inter torcedor when he was replaced by Bolaños in the second half.

Inter now have a brief break from the Campeonato Brasileiro and travel to Japan on Friday for the Copa Suruga. Whether the trip to Asia will benefit Inter remains to be seen, Tite admitted after the game that he was relieved to have won but acknowledged the pressure will continue.
